It is a lot more than I thought it would be. Still, they can hardly release the Xbox One S with a UHD drive and then leave one out of their Super Xbox One Ultra Turbo Edition 4k+.

I did say I expected it to look very similar to the One S but slightly bigger than the original One.

The other dev kits look VERY similar to the retail releases, as shown here...

I like that form factor; I guess the buttons will be replaced by the 4K drive. It looks pretty sleek for the power that it's packing.

The disc slot is already there, it's on the black panel beneath the buttons.

Ugly as strawberry float, but then so is the original Xbone.

:o . Good spot... I can barely see that! Maybe it'll get shifted up to where the buttons are in the retail version?

I checked out my nephew's Xbox One S last week; it's a really well-made console, especially considering the new cheaper price point and the 4K drive inclusion. If the Scorpio has a similar design and hits an acceptable price point, it could prove to be pretty attractive.

A bit about the VR plan from the Phil Spencer interview linked to above by Monkey Man:
In terms of hardware, we will talk more about it. There is a plan. I'll say that. This is not a we don't know what we're doing; it's more that we aren't saying yet. I think it's an immersive experience. I do not like that people are having to say, which of these VR verticals do I go pick right now, as a developer? Because I don't think any of them are really big enough yet to support a single experience. So you can see what we've done on console where we've said hey, go unlock your console and become a developer and go build a console game. You don't need to sign any kind of exclusivity deal with us in order to go unlock our console and go party on it. And build games.

So we're going to...my approach is to try and take a more open and inclusive approach to VR. The problem is the other people who are creating closed ecosystems are probably not going to like that. They're probably not going to want to play.

They've already confirmed Mixed Reality platform compatibility, don't think this adds anything.

I hope the retail version has real buttons.

I wonder if that performance display on the front will be left in for the retail version.

It will almost certainly be used as a clock. Dat 80's VCR chic. :datass:

Any news on the cloud processing capabilities of Scorpio?

I'm being facetious.

I actually really like the look of Scorpio although although that's probably down to all the positive stuff I've been reading about it. It's so easy to be swayed.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

Maybe the display could be turned on and off? I think it would be a nice feature.

Yes?

Dev support not mandatory

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/2958 ... f_Xbox.php

Quite a few PS4 games take no advantage of Pro, Persona 5 is a recent high profile example.

I do too, and I think it would appeal to many of the people this is aimed at, so they can see how all those flops are getting on. And yes, I assume there would be an option to turn it off!

That's a good meaty interview with much new info. A couple of tidbits:

* Backwards compatibility can maintain the active userbase & profitability of games with a long shelf life like GTA:V.
* Spencer's desire for backwards compatibility (he says) comes from a desire for gamers to retain access to older or defunct titles of special merit.
* Microsoft were developing an XBO 1.5 for launch in 2016 but pulled it opting for a Scorpio launch in 2017. (Surely the PS4 Pro leaks must have been a factor?)
* Microsoft accepted an invitation to visit Sony's VR team, and Sony visited Microsoft's HoloLens team.
* Phil Spencer has two daughters (It's the first thing I've read about his personal life).
