Personally don't think Pro's bump in spec is enough, sweet spot or not.

Possibly, Deaths, although I wonder if a chunk of players that plumped for the PS4 because of the power (MOST POWERFUL CONSOLE EVA!!11!) will want to get on-board with the Scorpio because it's going to be the new top dog in terms of technical prowess?

That is also possible, but given that the PS4 and PS4 Pro are more powerful than the XBO and that the core XBO owners are only interested in a more powerful console when it has the MS branding, I suspect that the reverse will also be true.

It depends what people are expecting from it. For me, it is fairly pointless as I don't have a 4K TV and have no intention in buying one in the near future.

I remember the whole 'Xbox can't even do 1080P lol' thing being massive back in the early days of the generation, to the point where I can imagine it being a major factor in the console some people picked up. I cant imagine it having quite the same impact at this generation mid-point, but those people who still haven't made a decision could very well be tempted by the PS4 Pro being knocked on its inabilty to do '4K gaming'. Again, a competitve price is essential.

I'm getting a pro. Couldn't imagine getting this instead. It's not just the price (though that is the biggest factor). The exclusives are better on PS4 Imo. I'd agree that it's mainly existing xbox owners who'll plump for this. MS would have to take a hell of a hit on the console RRP for it to be attractive to Pro owners.

Pretty slim pickings though if you look at the split of new sales between the base PS4 and the Pro.

Indeed, if Japan is anything to go by then it's 5:1.

PS4 Pro will struggle to reach 10m at this rate, no wonder developer support has been half arsed.

As others have said, the Scorpio at least at first is aimed at Xbox owners, some people (peter crisp) are going to jump on Xbox with this and that's understandable, the scalability it seems to have built in day one means that if the game is coming to PC and has 4K textures, there should be minimal work porting them to Scorpio in theory and failing that at least every game will get a significant bump.

PS4 Pro confirmed as selling worse than Wi U :( .

Don't panic, I'm joking!

I'm not sure about console loyalty. I think it perhaps has more effect than in the past as some people are heavily invested in digital downloading and few folk want to pay out for more than one subscription in order to play online. But, hey, quite a few people switched from the PS2 to the Xbox 360... and from the Xbox 360 to the PS4. If games start looking a lot better on Scorpio than that could be a driver in people deciding to switch (not Switch ;) ).

Personally I think I'll be sticking with my PlayStation 4 / Pro for quite a while as I don't have the cash to spend on a 4K TV and a Scorpio. If that were to change in the future, though, then I could see the power of the Scorpio becoming attractive.

It's looking that way, things might change with price drops and a growing 4K TV market.

Most people just want the most cost effective way of playing the latest FIFA or COD, right now that's PS4 Slim.

As for me, I have no intention of getting one either. My next hardware purchase will be a Switch, most likely followed by a 4K TV and PS5 in 2020.

Edit: If Microsoft stick by their claims of bringing Mixed Reality to Xbox One S, I may pick one of those up too.

Including 360 titles I've about 200+ digital games linked to my Live account which is paid up till 2018 (cd keys sale) and of course EA Access account that's paid up till November, as such it's ludicrous to even contemplate buying a PS4 when my game time is limited as it is. True I bought a Wii U but got the games I wanted and that's that console done going forward for me plus I have no subscription on it and don't intend to get one.

I've factored in a 4K tv when purchasing a Scorpio, I've allocated €1,500 to both, hoping to get a 52-60" 4K HDR screen for €1k, original Xbox One will head to spare room with its 1080p TV. The fact that performance issues will be instantly resolved is a major plus point, not many games bug me but I think Dishonored 2's framerate on X1 is awful, but DF didn't see a problem with it, I half feel I've a bugged version of it, that or I play Dishonored DE and that was locked smooth at 30fps and I can't get used to drops? Either way, it's joined an ever growing pile of games I'll revisit on Scorpio.

I think it is quite a problem for most to switch platforms these days. Apart from the digital content, you lose all of your achievement/trophies tally + any online community you are a part of. Given that this is not a new generation console, people might be more reluctant to switch platforms, instead waiting for the "proper" next gen machines (if they actually exist).

I think this is the first generation where downloads library has really mattered. Last-gen it was just the odd £5 throw away game, now its full £45 titles that people have downloaded and can't trade.

Photek not wanting to switch to PlayStation is understandable, his Xbox achievement score is strawberry floating ridiculous, it's 0 on PlayStation.

I still think he's missing out on some incredible exclusives though :datass:

And on top of that, it works across all Xbox content that runs on the new console - Xbox 360 back-compat titles and Xbox One games.

I imagine this is what they were on about with the "no screen tearing" claims on the initial spec reveal, so it's only the case if you have a compatible display.

The new Xbox is sounding like it will be pretty impressive. I wonder about cost, though... it will be packing a lot of new tech and I wonder if the machine is going to be a bit more expensive than most folk are anticipating?

I think it will be less. I assume that the CPU, GPU etc are all part of the same manufacturing process and not separate parts so manufacturing costs will be lower. Everything is going to be optimised (software wise) so this will be able to get results similar to those seen on more powerful (and expensive) hardware. I think this will be no more than £400, but even that seems a bit pricey and would be too much for me to have a punt.

I may be wrong, but I doubt a PC could be built that delivers 4K / 60FPS / HDMI 2.1 for £400? I'll be surprised if MS can launch a new console with that spec for £400, let alone the lower cost that some folk think it could be.

$400.

Nice sounding feature even if no TV currently supports it.
