Square Enix MMO skipping Microsoft’s console due to the “closed environment” of online service
Any hopes of upcoming MMO Final Fantasy XIV have seemingly been scuppered thanks to what Square Enix is calling the “closed environment” Microsoft operates Xbox Live within.
“The main reason why we couldn't go with Xbox 360 was the Xbox Live system,” the game’s online creator and director Hiromichi Tanaka told Eurogamer.
“Live is different to the normal internet environment, so when we wanted to introduce this game in the same environment as Windows PC it had to be PS3, so that was our choice.
“Microsoft has a different point of view. They want to have a closed environment for Xbox Live. We couldn't come to an agreement on Xbox Live.”
However, Tanaka did add that Square Enix is “still talking to” to Microsoft about the subject. For the time being, though, FFXIV remains a PS3 and PC only title.
As games get bigger and online enabled worlds more complex maybe XBL isn't as diverse as it needs to be?

This has already been posted in the FFXIV topic and is the exact same thing Square have been saying since E3 last year. FFXIV won't hit Xbox Live until Microsoft and Square sort out their issues.
