Correct, it's set a long time before XC2.

Playing it without the context provided by XC2 is probably a bad idea though

I'd be interested to hear someone who went from Torna to XC2 because I think Torna is very self contained. You don't get the "ah thats what happened there" moments and I'd recommend going XC2 then Torna as a first choice but I dont think it matters that much.

They don't need to get rid of it, they just need to streamline and let you use field skills of any of your blades rather than those in your team. Cut out the menu hopping and it would work fine.

I wouldn't mind if they removed the field skills as having to level them up to explore or open/dig up treasures also hindered exploration for me.

I thought it was quite a nice addition to the game and I missed it when it wasn't in XC1. I agree with Tomous, just make it so you don't have to keep swapping your equipped blades around.

While we're on the topic of DLCs how does Torna rank up compared to Future Connected?

I've always been a massive fan of the original Xenoblade and would say it's probably one of my favourite JRPGs (up there with The Last Story, must be a jolly british voice acting thing). Then I enjoyed two a lot but found Rex a lot more dislikeable as a protagonist than Shulk so was a lot more burnt out with it by the end and opted to skip Torna when it came out. Finally got round to playing Future Connected recently and thought it was allright but still couldn't quite match up to the original so curious for where people would rank Torna in the series.

I liked Torna, but I wasn't completely astounded by it.

The battle system is tweaked from the one in XC2, and it's better for it. Much more fast paced. The game runs better than XC2 also. There isn't much story and what is there is padded out by silly sidequests that you have to do.

It is easily better than Future Connected though.

I didn't get on with Future Connected, but I think I'd had enough of XC1 by that point. Shulk's earnest schtick was getting tiresome!

I think if I'd given it a break before coming back to it I might have fared better.

2 is brilliant, still a candidate for my favourite Switch game.

Just ignore the anime boob obsession. :fp:

It gets a bit of a shrug from me. Its a day 1 purchase, but from the trailers I've watched there's a lot of a similar type of dialogue/character motivation to what I saw in XC2 at times which just annoyed me. Seems like there are some decent changes to the combat system, even if some of the UI looks a little similar to XC2.

well there was plenty of new information in that trailer. err maybe i should spoiler it

our 6 main characters are grouped into 2s and can fuse which is neat, if reminding me of astral chain. it also seems that we can have to 7 people in our party at a time as opposed to 3, boy if affinity is back is that gonna make things easier. so weve either got a bunch more characters of several temporary members, spotted at least 3. one of which was two nopons as one character

Yeah I wonder how much of it is "Primary/Secondary" character combos like in XC2/Torna where you've got lots of people on screen but are really only ever controlling 3 of them (or really only controlling one but "guiding" the others to an extent)

I’d be really happy if the battle system is like Torna, I enjoyed XC2’s battle system in the end but clicked with Torna’s a lot quicker.

Edit, ordered on ShopTo, was £41.99 which is decent enough.

Gutted that it looks like the nopon duo are playable characters judging from a brief glimpse of them on the sidebar during combat as I was hoping we'd managed to dodge having a nopon PC this time around.

I love Xenoblade but Riki is the only good nopon character they've ever managed to make.

That's gotta be a joke, Riki is a strawberry floating trash character!
