Those are exactly the reasons it's not my top one. Any claim that it has the best characters (and Nia is flipping incredible) falls apart upon first contact with Pyra's design. And (spoilers for 3's ending) Rex's harem bollocks only made it worse retroactively. Still though, I think it looks nicest apart from the fanservice and has the best battle system, and there's no contest for the music!

3>2>1>X for me. They're all good though, the top three are great, and the top two make my top 25 games ever.

personally i'd rate pyra and mythra rather low of the list of the main protags in order of liking. and it's got nothing to do with their design

In fairness, XC2 also has some excellent character designs when it doesn't descend into anime boob madness. Morag :datass:

How is the difficulty in this game? I have seen several review outlets mention that it becomes far too easy if you do a healthy amount of side quests as you end up over levelled, and hard mode just drag everything out too long. Was this the case for you guys? Does the combat become dull after the first few dozen hours? And if it does, does it spoil the game?

I don't mind an RPG being too easy if the story and gameplay makes up for it (Witcher 3 was a walk in the park even on death march difficulty because of the aforementioned over levelling. It's one of my favourite games of all time).

Its £35 on amazon atm (not for the first time) and my finger is hovering over the "buy" button.

The side quest exp is stored away in its own bucket. My advice is to leave it there and play on normal.

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean you can do side quests but not cash in that specific experience when levelling up? If so, are there other benefits to doing the side quests (materials etc), or is it just for the story beats?

there's a few things you can get from side quests such as extra characters for your party and access to certain things etc. also it should be made clear that it's no all the exp you'll still get from all the monsters and things you fight

I'll be starting the game soon and think I'll do this.

You have to go to a rest area to level up, you can chose how much you want to level up by or even not at all. You can tailer the way you level up.

I am way over powered for the story but im doing higher levelled side quests which is where my challenge is at the moment.

Is that Rex and Shulk

They are definitely embracing the gigachad Rex meme.

Looks like Alvis there too.

It's definitely Alvin, pretty sure there's a good reason they made a few small retcons in XC:DE to his character.

I know the character is older here, but I miss the old Rex voice already.

I just wonder if Shulk and Rex will know each other. They met in the XC2 DLC.

Yeah if that's meant to be Rex then I'm not a fan of the voice :|

Eh, I wasn't a fan of his original VA anyway.

Rex's VA is practically perfection

Only thing that eclipses it is Nia
