For me, heart and style will always triumph over performance :toot: .

I still haven't started this yet. I've watched Pedz play it for an hour, though...

Indeed, charm and style all the way. If developers can manage both beautiful looks AND performance then that's obviously the dream, but if it has to be one then I'll take the former.

Also as it's not a "twitch" type game in most respects then a lot of performance issues have a lower impact anyway. Thus far it's been a lovely looking thing.

That said, I'm sure they could have coaxed a few more FPS out of it by dropping the poly count on some of these ludicrous boobies!

I thought Pyra's breasts were ridiculous but it looks like it gets much, much worse later in the game.

Damn Stardew Valley addiction hit when I should be playing more of this game. :fp:

As for style or performance, I'd pick the latter tbh as frame rate drops really spoil my enjoyment of a game. That being said, the few drops I've had in Xenoblade 2 haven't been that bad and the dynamic resolution is more noticeable yet still manages to look pretty damn nice.

SPOILER REGARDING SALVAGING. READ AND BE SPOILED.

At Argentum Trading Guild, on a small platform just after the floor that has the Inn is a Nopon who for a fee (which rises based on your rank) will rate your salvaging skills and gives you items based on what rank you get. If you salvage enough times to get to Rank C and above you will receive a Premium Cylinder (I hope they become available further in the game as they outclass the gold cylinders by a mile in my opinion Although I guess they'll be expensive. resell value is 25,000 gold). This thing is pure bank if you hit perfect on all three qte's you are guaranteed the best treasure chest spawn and if you're lucky multiple chests. I used one at the Maelstrom salvage point and got THREE chests.

I am in love with this game. The characters, the voice acting, the setting. Everything.

The only thing I hate is the strawberry floating gacha system. You're meant to have higher chance for your first rare blade and I've used 20 common cores and 2 rare cores and not got gooseberry fool. T_T

I mean, that character design is nigh on offensive. The strawberry float is that sort of gooseberry fool doing in a game in 2017? I was jazzed for this but I play the majority of my games with my GF these days and no way am I embarrassing myself by showing her that gooseberry fool.

strawberry floating hell.

The female blades in this are obviously very badly designed. I must admit I find them funny rather than offensive though. I accept I might feel differently if I were a woman, but to me the designs are just so ridiculous I can't take them seriously.

EDIT: My partner thinks they're hilarious for what it's worth.

Yeah, it's really off putting. I'm going to power through regardless but it does seem like, after Nintendo received a lot of criticism for censoring Xenoblade Chronicles X in the West (removing the boob size slider etc...) that they've just given Monolith free reign to go for it this time, and do what they want.

Also, it seems like the character in question was designed by a female designer, and that's being used as a defence  :fp:

I'm part way through chapter 2, enjoying how the game is opening up a little bit more now.

I'm not sure if I like the design of the game as much as the previous two games though. The tutorials not being saved (or are they?) seems like bit of an oversight. The lack of, let's call it filler, on each of the items you collect is a bit naff too. Sure, I don't particularly care that Reyn found some moss and called it Clarity Moss, but at least it was a nice little addition. And where are my massive mind maps connecting everyone I meet? Biggest disappointment so far is actually the lack of an opening cinematic. Xenoblade Chronicles had that little starting battle and after that you had a little glimpse of each part of the world backed by an amazing soundtrack. That was incredible. X had that amazing introduction to Mira. This had what exactly?

Still early days and all that but combined with the odd FPS drop means it's not quite as good as I wanted it to be. Still know I'm going to really enjoy it though which is what counts.

Should I use all my cores right away, or save them for when I’m levelled up more or something? Seems like I’m getting plenty and they’re to be used up in the attempt to get rare blades, but game hasn’t really explained it well. I’m at the start of chapter 3. Haven’t played a xenoblade game before.

I don't think levelling makes a difference. Some people think that a character's luck stat makes a difference, no idea if there's any truth to that. You're only able to hold 99 at a time, so obviously best to open them before then. I'm curious about the boosters you can add to them, and how much of a difference they make. I'm not entirely sure, but I think I got the booster's from releasing rubbish blades.

I've got four rare blades now, none of them coming from Rare Crystals though. Boreas, Agate, Perceval and Adenine. The system's a little frustrating at the moment, because some Blades would suit other characters, and as yet I haven't found any way to transfer them. I am however, still getting tutorials, 18 hours in, so who perhaps further down the line.

Sometimes the level design is intricate and genius, but occasionally maddening. I have a handful of side quests I just cannot fathom how to get to. There's a beetle related one that has a platform in the middle of the clouds, miles below anywhere that's safe to jump to. Tried changing the cloud tide, made zero difference.

Loving the story and the characters. Dromarch and Gramps have an adorable relationship, and Poppi mimicking her driver in the background of most scenes is heartwarming.

I desperately need a blade with Fortitude. I just recently got Azami from a Rare Core Crystal, and she looks like a cross between something from Shin Megami Tensei and Bayonetta.

Changing the clouds is the answer. Long stay at the inn, and change the time to 5am.

I eventually worked it out. I was doing the right thing, just had no idea I could jump down on the clouds and... swim(?).

It's an interesting one isn't it. I fell off the side at the first area and assumed I was done for before realising you could swim! I guess it is discussed in the narrative that the characters can swim in the clouds, but it could have been communicated a bit better from a gameplay perspective.

I've found a few interesting nooks by going for a quick swim so far!

Are any of the side quests time/progress limited like in the first Chronicles? Or are they all available to pick up/complete entirely at your leisure?

75 hours. Bloody hell. I was slightly impressed when my 10 days played turned into 35 hours or more on the Switch activity log.

@Lastpostamorph I haven't had any time limited quests yet. Only just started Chapter 5 though.
