Finished this last night, got a bit lucky in surviving one of his attacks but made it through and Im glad I did. I am burned out on it now though, I initially thought I would fire up new game plus right away and go for it but Im gonna take a break, play something else for a while and consider new game plus at a later time. I am super hyped for X2 though, that has to be a thing right?

Suggestion is that they’re working on a medieval setting next, based on ads for staff hiring.

Well after 3 months and 96 hours I've finally beaten the game. Short version - it's very good. I loved the story and characters, up their with the first game for me (though I don't think it surpasses it). The combat however I enjoyed much more. Not everything is well explained but when the combat clicks with you it held great to pull off elemental combos and destroy an enemies health bar. Great experience. Now Spoiler stuff for both Xenoblade 1 and 2.

Was not expecting them to connect in any way but having Klaus be the thing that connects the two was awesome. I'm guessing that's where his other half was, I kinda wish we got a little more connections but what we got was excellent. Nice ending to the game too - and I need to watch the end of the first Xenoblade again because that island at the end reminded me very much of the new world Shulk creates. A third game that connects the two games to make a trilogy? Yes please Monolith.

ITs a fair bit into the game from what I remember, maybe halfway through, cant recall exactly. If he annoys you that much just mainline the story and you can come back to the side quests once youre rid of him.

Cos, Monolith. Get used to it, there will be lots of moments like that. In general the level of enemies in a new area will match your party (or at least your parties expected level) but there are always a couple of unique monsters in each area that break that curve.

So I’ve been trying to do more of the blade side quests because they’re a lot more interesting and unique for the most part. I’d been enjoying Ursula’s, up to a point I just got to where I think what the game is asking me to do is complete (by my calculations) around 15 hours worth of Merc Missions to progress. What. Am I missing something here? This might be one of the worst side quests I’ve ever seen.

No, Ursula's side quests are ridiculously long. I think the one I enjoyed the most was Boreas, the missions themselves are relatively dull but the skits during them are fantastic.

Yeah I’m talking more about the skits and stories within them. They do abit of character development and really add personality to the blades not involved in the main story.

I don’t think I can be bothered to do Ursula’s, which is a shame as I was enjoying it up until that point.

Merc Mission timers really should continue while you're not playing. It seems so strange that only actual game time counts towards them.

Ursulas are particularly bad and grindy, I like the idea of the Blade missions to give the Blades a bit of personality and back story and stuff but some of them are just not fun. Some of the requirements to level up their affinity chart are gooseberry fool as well, Roc in particular is a ballache.

Just got to Chapter 7. Could anyone give me an estimate of how many more hours I'm looking at to complete the story?

I've just hit chapter 9 and I'm on 86 hours. Been taking my time though and doing side quests/levelling up blades. I'd be interested to know how far off the end I am too.

I’ve also been taking my time and doing similar and it’s taken me 75 hours to get to the start of Chapter 7.

I think I’m going to power on with the story and then take a break and come back to finish off bits and pieces later. Maybe wait until the story DLC is released and come back then.

I found once I got that far I just wanted to push on with the story and I finished it off pretty quickly. If I could go back and do it again I would take my time a bit more with the end of it. Its also worth doing all the side quests you can if you really want to do them, reason in the spoiler box, it doesnt give away any plot but some people dont want anything at all spoiled

There is an unflagged point of no return in Chapter 8. It makes one area inaccesible from then on and any quest that involves that area cant be completed so get em done before you start that chapter.

Clearly we have different notions of "taking your time" - I just finished Chapter 7 and I'm on 115 hours! :toot:

I'm not sure how it's taken me that long - I have just really enjoyed it I guess!

So I'm 86 hours in and I've only just figured out driver combos. I'd spent most of the game happily toppling enemies and just assumed that was it. Until I dropped Zeke into my set up and Roc and now I can launch and smash as well. :fp: Only realised this after reading around on rare and legendary core farming. I think I might be able to play this game forever.

That's one of the great things about the combat system, there are so many combinations and ways to play it. Personally I never used the break/topple cycle, I knew it was there but never had a team focused on it, instead always went straight for those elemental combos.
