Thats something I love about Monolith Soft, theyre quite happy to just plonk you in the world and let the world kick your ass. The walk to Torigoth at the start of the game take you past a level 80 something giant ape, you havent even been shown how to fight properly and theyll let you get smashed by a roided up monkey. Theres also 2 level 90+ beasts in that same area so even when you are going back and forth around there later on you need to be careful to not get too close to them. The flip side of that is how good it feels when you do power up enough to fight these guys, their presence has been taunting you for the entire game and now you can just get rid of them and never see them again.

Yeah it is a really nice way of doing things. And I find it's quite fairly balanced as well, generally the really tough beasts can be avoided if you stick to your current tasks, and they always advertise the enemies level so it's not like you weren't warned! Like you say that early trek to Torigoth does allow you to encounter some powerful beasts, but if you follow a fairly straight line to your destination you'd probably be unlucky to get ambushed by the "mega monkey"!

I think I had one early side quest which needed me to collect a certain item which always put me in the path of some level 70+ flying monster - that was a bit annoying but eventually I managed to swipe the item and run for it!

This actually helps with my current situation as well, I may be 10+ levels out of step with the main quest, but I can always wander off the beaten track and find something else to give me more of a challenge!

I managed to avoid him for ages but then I was fighting some Volffs and just about to finsihed them off when I died, just got wiped out in an instant, had no idea what happened. Turned out he came around the corner and just decided that he didnt like us causing trouble on his turf so he put an end to it, I cant wait to my revenge in about 30 hours.

I'm currently 80 hours in and part way through chapter 8 - about to
presumably climb the world tree.

Before that however I've been going through all the areas doing any sidequests I can and any heart to hearts etc. Taking me quite a while though I've nearly covered each place, my team is nearly level 70 so I should be prepared for the area's ahead at least.

Just 5 more rare blades to go to complete my collection and am sitting on 99 of each core. Getting one rare blade every 30-40 cores now.

Any tips on where to farm rare and legendary cores? Nearing the end of Ch. 9 and plan to finish up the game soon but might consider some post game stuff if I'm really feeling it*.

*pun intended.

If you're level 50-70 there is a good spot in Uraya with a unique monster called Vampire Bride Marion. It drops rare and legendary cores + gold chips which boost item drop rate by 50%, the gold chips stack the chance for each blade and it gives you a large amount of base damage. It's located in the Dragon's Stomach area but behind a door which is unlocked during the Titan Scholar quest.

The best place overall is the Ardun at the Torigoth farms. You need to give food to the guy standing next to it until you get it to level 100, at which point you're free to fight it and summon it as many times as you like. Each time you do a driver combo it'll net you at least one of each core and if you overkill finish it, it gives 99,999 EXP which is great for grinding bonus EXP in NG+.

Completely ignored the Ardun quest thinking it was a waste of time, but I guess that was a big mistake lol. Will try and check these out later, thanks man.

Ive been doing the Ardun quest only because Ive wandered back and forth past it a few times, its still got a ways to go before it gets to level 100 but its good to know theres a decent payoff at the end. :D

Do you guys mix up character classes (e.g. give Rex healer Blades), switch your playable character or a bit of both? I'm still trying to find a second blade that I like for Rex.

I'm only on chapter 3 (I think) but does the Noppon get another Blade or do you just change the element type of Poppi? I'm trying to have a range of elements for combo attacks.

I kept Rex as an attacker and left the tank and healer duties to other drivers. I think if you dont want to be an attacker youre better off changing your characer to be someone else as you cant take Pyra from Rex (the same is true of other drivers and their special Blades, they seem to want specific characters to be tanks and healers) so he will always have at least one attack blade so you might as well focus on him being the attacker. Once you increase your luck crack open any cores you have, get some more options for Blades as soon as you can, later on you will also get more drivers so your options will expand with them..

Regarding the Noppon: He does get other Blades, he can eventually wind up with three but the 3rd one is an optional side quest, much later in the game. I didnt change Poppis element ever, I had a broad enough range with other Blades that I didnt need to but that might be different for you depending on what other Blades you managed to resonate with.

Finally, only look at this is you really dont mind spoilers, it covers some story adjacent stuff you havent gotten to yet:
During the course of the story Rex will pick up 2 other rare and powerful Blades so dont worry too much about finding someone you like right now, that will take care of itself. Of course you might not like who they give you but dont fret too much about trying to find the perfect team right now, a good one will fall into your lap soon enough.

Thanks, Rax. That's really helpful. I'll keep everyone as they are and just focus on the elements of the Blades that I get from cores.

Just over 90 hours in and I think I'm close to the end now.
Climbing the World tree, Mikhail just went down and I'm on my way to Jin. Despite thinking I was overlevelled there were some difficult fights (mostly with unique monsters to be fair) which were very satisfying to beat, when you click with the combat system finish them off with a long chain attack it's incredibly fun. I'm excited to see how it ends, and after 3 months I'm ready to move on to something new.

I wrapped up the story the other night. Left with a mix of emotions but mostly positive with my overall experience with this game. It's definitely a gem, but one you kinda have dig deep to find. The characters and the worlds you explore made the game for me in so many ways. Everyone plays their part and I think the chemistry gels so well together at times.

There's a ton of extra stuff I could do like collect blades but I but I just don't feel all that motivated atm. Might revisit this in the future. Now I want Rex in Smash lol >,>
