Looks fantastic never played a Xeno game, the graphics are a bit of a let down though.

Don't worry, you've got at least a year to catch up. Probably longer.

“It's a completely different world, with completely new characters. It's a different game.”

“The way I see it,” says Takahashi, “I feel as though Xenoblade 1 and 2 are connected and linked in the sense that they're linear and story-driven games, whereas Xenoblade Chronicles X was more focused on open world and exploration, and maybe an online aspect. I feel like I'd like to continue to create games separating those two aspects out.”

This means that you don't have to play either of the other two Xenoblade games before jumping into XC2 but I'd still recommend playing the Wii or 3DS Xenoblade as it's fantastic

Here's yesterday's trailer:

Chronicles X is still a cool game, isn't it? Maybe not quite as good as the original game, but still worth a play?

Its brilliant. Got a few issues but the main reason I'm less keen on it is its focused on other things. Despite the gigantic world to explore and the freedom it felt less personal and less like a journey.

I should really join Cedar Gingercrystals in playing through the two adventures prior to the Switch game arriving.

I restarted it a couple of months ago but stopped because it wasn't as engaging as the Wii game. The world is huge and impressive but your main character is very lifeless which is boring on its own and disappointing when compared to Shulk. This puts Elma and other party members at a disadvantage because interactions with the main character won't have anywhere near as much personality.

Restarting it after BotW didn't help because I wanted to climb all this cliffs that I could see and it made the world feel limited in comparison. Those are the two main factors, and the fact that I had Tokyo Mirage Sessions waiting to be played, that led to me stopping and starting TMS instead. Actually, it was also hard to get much time to play and the lack of a sleep function like the Switch's made getting into a game take a bit too long for my liking.

I'll probably go back to it on a PC emulator with save states to make it more accessible but, for now, I'm enjoying TMS and I'm excited :toot: for Xenoblade 2. Xenoblade 1 is more than enough to fill the time between now and the release of 2, especially if you're worried about burning out, and it's fantastic so I highly recommend it.

I'm very excited for this. It looks like what I want, the exploration of X, but with more of a story.

X's biggest failing was how little there was to the main plot. They could have done so much more with it. I still hope there is a sequel someday, because that cliffhanger ending needs resolving.

Some truth here. But I didnt mind being the "silent" avatar I just wished my choices had a bit more impact and that I could have felt more like a part of the team.

But as awesome as exploring the world in X (which is stunning) was I preferred the Bioness. The places felt like they had history so each area almost felt legendary. You were always working towards somewhere for some reason. The untamed wilderness of X is glorious but to me less significant to the main story. Everything really felt like it tied together in a web. I also go back to that moment when you make it to the top of the Bioness and look back. Remembering the places and events that you experienced to get to that point. And then realising that it wasn't even near the end of the game.

Did you ever get a Skell in X? Because music aside that was so flipping awesome and well worth not being able to climb.

I suspect we will see a return of the more linear structure of the original. So a series of large areas which you gradually unlock. Maybe each area is on a different Titan so you have to find ways of traveling between them.

As TWA has stated already, I cannot express how good Monolith are at building game world's. X was a huge success in that regard, and Xenoblade was phenomenal as well.

I remember playing X and making my way to Sylvavum on foot, making my way across the small connected islands and swimming a bit of that. And then to be greeted by that place and that soundtrack. One of my favourite experiences in a game from the last few years.

I had a similar experience when you make it to the Sea of Eryth (I think it's called) in Xenoblade. So good.

I really must go back and finish Xenoblade, did love it. Pretty sure was over half way; just bit daunting going back after so long (prob 3 years now). Afraid will have forgot lots!

The bits with the ships in this trailer put me in mind of Skies of Arcadia.

I really enjoyed X, and I will go back and do more of the affinity missions at some point and get higher level Skells so I can use some of my more ridiculous weapon loot. It was slightly too big for its boots in regards to main story arch, but there are so many other little missions, it did feel populated. And there is so much more to try in the game, such as the massively OP'd enemies lying around at level 50+.

In terms of world building, Monolithsoft worked on BotW as well, so they're certainly an asset.

I think I may be looking forward to this sequel more, as the locales and characters look more colourful overall. It reminds me of Tales of Symphonia, a game I've still never played. I didn't quite understand before how far Monolith were reaching with Xenoblade X, as the sci-fi world is very well realised and they hadn't really done that before, certainly never to such a grand extent. They are different games.

The journey around the Bionis was fantastic because you got another sense of scale as you climbed a huge God that had huge areas for you to explore. I'd buy and play a Switch version in an instant :shifty:

I didn't get the Skell as I stopped after about five hours. I'll almost certainly go back to it on an emulator with save states so that I can jump into the game a lot quicker but, for now, my JRPG line up for the year will be Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Xenoblade 2 with possibly some Kingdom Hearts thrown in. I'll need to get around to Disgaea as well, once I finish Fire Emblem: Echoes :toot:

That's a shame. Skells completely change the game.
