Taking a break from Zelda so decided to give this a spin. It's got all the great things in it from XC (apart from Shulk's jump animation that made him look like he was taking a gooseberry fool in mid air). Switched to the Japanese voices as the English ones were really starting to grate. About 4 hours in now and stuff is just starting to open up. Really going to enjoy this.

How does one Switch (geddit? eh? eh? eh?) on the Japanese voices, Im about 2 hours in and I already hate the sound of Rex and everyone he has come into contact with. Loving it so far though, really looking forward to the world opening up a bit and seeing more of it, it was one of my favourite things about X so Im hoping this is just as good in that regard.

Edit: Just noticed this is Rax asking Rex how to change the voice of a different Rex.

Go on the store, search for XC2 and then download the free Japanese voice pack.

Hit a real sticking point earlier, had a quest to get some stuff but had to go through a section with no companions. Literally everything in the world was kicking my arse, even stuff that was 2 or 3 levels under me. I remember XC having it but not to this extent.

That happening is one of the few things I dislike about this series. You get used to the team mechanic, set your characters up to compliment eachother and then you're forced to go solo for a while and suddenly the combat goes from being one of the most enjoyable aspects of the game to a complete chore.

Bit of a bump, but after 2 months and 100+ hours of gameplay I finally decided to finish the final chapter last night and I think it quite possibly topped the original for me. Usually I'd stop playing a game for a while after the main quest is complete but I still have number of side quests and rare Blades to unlock and more importantly I just have an urge to do some salvaging and enjoy more of the combat.

I’ve just started this. Combat is confusing and the character design as questionable as I knew it would be in places but I’m really enjoying it for what it is so far.

Also, the music is utterly outstanding.

I'm at about 15 hours in and still getting tutorial sections :slol: I absolutely love the complexity of the battle system, I think they pitched the learning curve with it just about perfectly with new functions arriving just as you've nailed the earlier stuff. The depth in the menus is also something that really appeals to me, there can't be too many micro objectives in a game. The only thing I'm missing is the item/creature/whatever encyclopedia that was in the first game but I assume that'll be coming along at some point. I've also still got a main menu item marked as ??? even after 15 hours (I'm kind of assuming they're linked so if not then that'll be a pleasant surprise).

I think I like this more than Zelda. Not that it's a better game (it's not) and the writing is dreadful in parts. But it just ticks so many of the boxes of things I love in games, grinding for upgrades on characters, reams of collectables, a range of skills you can tinker with, a really deep battle system. It's obscenely complex in parts but it's drip fed to you in such a steady stream that it never becomes overwhelming.

Barely played any of this (roughly about 5 hours currently), I need to play more of it as I really enjoyed the first few hours but other games have kept me coming back to them rather than playing something new like this.

Took me 35 hours in but I finally had my first rage moment - took longer the previous 2 games at least. Level 38 Unique Monster with a blade (my team's level 40), took me a few attempts to realise it was nullifying healing arts. Took a break to un-rage myself, came back and came to the conclusion I ain't beating it yet. I will get myself to level 50 and then come back to completely incinerate it.

Had a read around on Chain Attacks earlier, so basically I have to do 3 x 3 stage specials putting on 3 possible orbs that I have opposite element blades for before unleashing the attack?

Don't you just have to fill the 3 bars on the top left in order to do a chain attack? Using driver arts seems to fill the bars as far as I can tell.

I still need to get my head round some of the details of the battle system, once a chain attack has started I'm still not clear why sometimes I get multiple rounds of attacks and other times I just get one go...

Every time you do a 3 stage special attack an orb gets attached to the enemy. When you launch a chain attack, you need to use the opposite element during a round to extend it to another round. So stick a fire orb on it and then do a water attack during the chain will do lots of damage and give you another (stage II) round. I think. :?:

Ah okay, so if you do a chain attack with no orbs then you only get one round? When you say 3 stage special do you mean a combo? I'm sure I've done those without any orbs being added before!

I believe this is indeed a case, the only requirement for starting a chain attack is the three bars full - just it'll be more effective using elemental orbs.

I mean those special moves allocated to the A button. When you do one of those then a small (outrun style) map appears in the top corner. Follow across that using a suitable II and III level move and it creates an orb from the last element used.

Damn this game is deep.

Yeah those are called blade combos I believe.

There's definitely a lot going on in the battle system, I'm not too far into it (Chapter 4 I think) so I'd like to get a handle on things now. I always seem to finish these sorts of games without realising half of what is going on - I remember getting through FFVII without having the first real idea how the materia system works, same with FFVIII and the magic drawing and junction mechanics! :fp:

Patch 1.3.0 drops next week with the stuff: (taken from era)

QOL Changes:
- You can now lock Blades you pulled from the gacha to prevent yourself from accidentally releasing them. Also a good way to protect common blades which you want to keep but can't easily tell them apart.
- There is an option to SKIP THE BLADE GACHA ANIMATION!!!!!!
- They have updated the zoomed out minimap to display the super useful icons that were previously only on the fast travel map!!!
- Added an Easy Mode for scrubs.
- Accessories, Assist Cores, and Blade listings have additional sort functionalities.
- Added Advanced New Game Plus for those who have clear save data.

NG+ (has some spoilers)
- The 4 Blades used by the Ira/Torna members can be acquired as Blades now.
- The Ira/Torna members other than Metsu/Melos and Shin/Jin can be acquired as Blades too.
- It seems that you can get any of them either through gacha or from quests? They say you can pull them from common cores from the start of the game even if it doesn't make sense in the story lol.
- You can send any Blade on mercenary missions now. So the story blades have their own squad names too. <3
- Reverse Kizuna (Affinity I guess) Ring for characters added, with more stuff to unlock.
- Level Down feature added to inns to gain bonus exp back, using bonus exp as a currency you can now exchange items with a new NPC at inns.
- "That" Blade can finally use a lvl4 Special Attack.

What carries over in NG+:
- Driver levels
- Driver and Blade growth progression and equipment
- Blades acquired from gacha (good after the 300 hours it took to get them all I didn't want to do it all again)
- Acquired items and gold
- Town Development levels and Mercenary levels
- Event Theater content and status of Unique Monsters

All quests, bonding events, fast travel spots, and mercenary quests themselves are reset.
