Slowly making my way through this (only just starting chapter 6) but it is good, the fighting doesn’t seem overly deep? It’s the story that’s keeping me going though as it’s pretty gripping!

I have got to the part where it has opened up some business but where I can buy and manage buildings.....is this optional? Not really interested in doing any of that stuff as I just want to carry on with the main story thread

Yeah, the real estate stuff is entirely optional but you can earn quite a lot of money from it.

Are there more reasons to have more money down the line? I only have upgraded a few moves and bought lots of health drinks but (this might just be as it’s still early) the combat doesn’t seem to warrant me upgrading everything to the max as I’ve just used the basic combos to clear fights

Money is really only used for buying upgrades, weapons and supplies. The enemy encounters get steadily harder as the game goes on with enemy groups getting much bigger, better armed etc so you’ll likely want to acquire more upgrades.

I suppose it depends on exactly what you intend to get out of the game. You might get away without upgrading too much if you just want to beat the story but I’m not sure.

There is a bit of a trick to farming money involving Mr Shakedown but it only works with Kiryu.

Oh really? That guy kicked my arse the first time we fought, how does this trick work?

It’s important to save before attempting this in case you mess up.

First of all you’ll need one of Kiryu’s CP upgrades from the temple that increases the cash Mr Shakedown drops by a certain percentage.

Next you let him beat you while you are flush with cash then heal up and find him again and defeat him. The increase applies to what he has stolen from you as well so you get an even bigger return.

Every time you defeat him he gets a little harder but has more money on him. If you are strong enough to beat him comfortably you can earn silly amounts of money doing this.

What is the best way to increase strength? Is it equipping items? I have a sword in a weapon slot which says 230 attack not found anything like that since

Weapons don’t do owt unless you press down to use them in a fight. The damage you deal, your health and everything else for that matter is on the skill trees.

Up to chapter 15 now, my god this has picked up! The story genuinely has me hooked and I can’t put it down once I start playing! The soundtrack is perfect to and the battles seem to have got more interesting

Annnnnnnd done, 26 hours and 3 minutes in total, what a great game!

Quick question, slightly spoiler based I guess

during the end credits where it has details on what happened next for the characters, it mentions a dark event that occurs in 1995 involving Kiryu......is this something that is a part of the next game?

He goes to jail I think
although Zero is the only one I’ve played so I’m probably wrong.

26 hours is an impressive time by the way, I was closer to 100 but I did do nearly everything in the game.

yeah, it did mention he goes to jail for 10 years and that niskhi continues to rise up the Yakuza ranks. I was wondering if this is a storyline that takes place in the next game? Or does the next game take place further on in time? Also, the very last scene where Majima and Kiryu comes face to face, how do they know each other seeing as they never met in the game?

Yes.

Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but I think Sagwa describes Kiryu to Majima at some point? Or maybe it's through reputation? Personally, I think it's fan service, and that their first proper introduction takes place between 0 and Y1, off screen.

Cool, well it was a very enjoyable game so I’ll give Kiwani a go in the New Year. I hope they bring 3,4 and 5 to PS4 in the future

The Western translation team, during a Twitch livestream, are reported to have said there'll be no Yakuza announcements at PSX  But also that 2018 will be a great year for Yakuza. :toot:

Finished this last night, just over 30 hours I think.

Absolutely loved it. First Yakuza game I've played. Combat got a bit tedious with the multiple health bar bosses but other than that it's a magnificent game and probably one of the best told stories in a game I've played. Probably would've been my game of the year if it wasn't for Nintendo smashing it out the park with Zelda.

Noticed Yakuza Kiwami is only £20 for the steelbook at Shopto so got that. Probably won't start it straight away since I'll go back to Nier Automata now to finish that off plus Monster Hunter World is out on Friday.

I thought Kiwami would be the much poorer game compared to 0 what with it being a remake of the first game. The only complaint I came away with was the lack of arcade games. Really enjoyed everything else.

I've still got a ton of side quests to do (I think my completion was 13% or something) so looking forward to doing more of those. I live how the tone of them is completely different than the main story.
