Prologue

December 1988 - Japan
The winter was chilly but electric in Kamurocho, the premier entertainment district in the east. Here, money buys luxury, and luxury is a way of life. With the nation's economy at the height of a boom, the people of Kamurocho believed that nothing they could wish for was out of reach. But there are some places where money only goes so far.

A vacant lot. A humble square of concrete and weeds, hardly the size of a parking space.

The Kamurocho 21st Century Revitalization Project is underway, and to own the land is to hold the power. Whoever can obtain the final piece in the puzzle, this tiny patch of ground, will have the leverage to change the balance of the city and spearhead a mammoth commercial property known as the Millennium Tower. Two men are flung into a conflict they do not yet comprehend. Those in power have every intent of burying them in this sea of change, unaware that they were setting events into motion that would give birth to legends.

Always wanted to get into the Yakuza series, this seems like it will be the perfect place for me to start. I'll wait till it drops in price a bit before I pick it up but I look forward to giving it a go at some point this year

You can then get ready for Yakuza Kiwami, which is a remake of the original Yakuza game, and due for a Summer 2017 release. And then, in early 2018, we'll also be getting Yakuza 6.

Very cool, are they going to be releasing 2,3,4 and 5 on PS4 as well? Be good to have the whole series on 1 system

No word on that, no. No such Japanese release, anyway.

I would say there is a good chance of 2 being remade but not 3,4 & 5 or at least not this generation. I can understand it being annoying that you can't get them all for one system, hopefully Playstation Now will improve and add the PS3 era titles. I wouldn't mind seeing the PSP games (only 2 of them) being ported to PSN as well.

It's my favourite one to date, and that's saying something.

:hype:

Got it pre-ordered from Amazon. Hopefully they deliver early like they did with last GoT boxset but I'm not holding my breath on that. :x :(

Hmm...

I've been keeping an eye on this and it looks pretty good. Is it the first Yakuza game of the series?

Tempting to buy it.

I think Yakuza 0 tells the first story of two of the primary characters in the series. The first Yakuza game however will be getting re-released later this year in the form of the Yakuza Kiwami remake. (Also to be released in the west on PS4.)

BOR, buy it. I swear you'll love it. Yakuza games are like a modern take on Streets of Rage, but with tonnes more stuff to see and do, and a far more intricate and satisfying combat system.

As it has already been out in Japan for two years as well, there have been plenty of comments saying that while the series is intricately tied together with each instalment, you can absolutely start at 0 as it's at the beginning of the timeline.

I know this is set really early on timeline wise, but Akiyama looks so young o_o

Really hope they redo Yakuza 2 as well. One of those games I meant to pick up for years but the price has got silly lately.

Those review scores have me extremely tempted, though I didn't get on particularly well with Yakuza 3, probably take a punt when it's cheaper.....

Really happy and not at all surprised to see such high scores. Glad to see the marketing for 0 being executed in such a good way (e.g YouTubers and reviewers receiving copies ages in advance to properly play and get people excited about the game). Here's to more Yakuza releases outside Asia!
