I love the music, the stories they tell, the joyous escapism. :D I love it when they teach me about history and such, too.

Ok, serious answer, many reasons

- Escapism, I've visited so many worlds it's unbelievable, ranging from the Mushroom Kingdom to Shenmue's 80s Tokyo, from Mass Effect's galaxy to the Spencer Mansion, from Daytona's blue skies to Last of Us' dreary towns.

- #winning, I don't play online much, must mastering Tekken or PES and stuffing your opponent is a great feel

- Story/characters, games like the Last of Us, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy VII beat all other forms of media in terms of story telling and characters for me.

- Evolution, every year I feel like gaming takes a stride forward in terms gameplay, graphics, story and characters, the same can't be said of movies or music these days.

Nostalgia, when I'm depressed or feeling old, I jump back into games I have happy memories of playing with old friends like Mario Bros, Streets of Rage, Tekken 3, ISS Pro, there's no feeling like it.

I love videogames because they taught me valuable life lessons from the very beginning, like how if you fail at things people will mock you for it

Escapism. Fun. The interactivity not often offered by other forms of entertainment even in single player modes, and how you can express yourself through this. They can be artistic and profound too. Vidya is life.

I love games mainly because I get to hang out with my mates online, unfortunately due to 4 of us having different taste in games individually, we only play a small selection of games together. PUBG is the game we all like so it's way up on schedule. Halo MCC MP too but it's secondary in every regard. 3 of play Forza 4 regularly and 3 of us will be on Blackout.

We'll lose 1 player for a while to Red Dead 2, I convinced him to get RD2 for his PS4 Pro instead of his X1S as it will look and play better so he won't even be on the console. He said he might get a second copy on Xbox when the online kicks off but wouldn't count on it.

I love LOVE playing certain games with my daughter, Sea of Thieves being an excellent one. She can hold her own and helps me with sails, directing them and when to raise them, she's adapt at fixing and bailing the ship and she's not too shabby at the combat, she can't steer the thing tho, she has problems knowing when to stop the wheel to face straight but she can read a compass and is our diver when we find a sunken ship while I keep look out. She's AWFUL at spying enemy ships from the crows nest though, I usually spot them first from down on deck. :fp:

Then there's the Single player, The Witcher 3 and AC Origins are 2 of the best games I've played this gen, Alien Isolation, Sunset Overdrive and many many others have been genuinely top tier experiences. for me. I feel sorry for non gamers who'll never experience Bioshock, or Half life, The Last of us and Halo, on and on.

What on earth :slol: Why would you encourage him to buy a game that he won't be able to play with you? Considering how big GTA Online was, surely they're going to milk the online aspect of RDR2 just as much?

The reason I love video games is simply because it allows me to do things I can't in real life.

I'm fairly confident that if I was to walk into my local RAF base and say I wanted to take out a Eurofighter and start a war just for the hell of it they'd object and ask politely that maybe I should reconsider but in computer games I can.

Pretty simple really and is the same reason people love books and film it's just that games have more interaction.

I know I've been whinging a lot lately about games, as a time sink, and that I don't enjoy them as much as I used to, or that I find too many games do the same things, but I still think, as a medium, they're actually incredible, and I think there's still a long way to go before we fully realise the kind of experiences that can be had.

I've been spending a lot of time lately watching YouTube videos that break down aspects of gameplay and design, and I think I enjoy these more than playing some games at the moment. It's still born from an appreciation of games as a whole, and it's a way of feeling connected to them, and continuing to enjoy them, even if I don't actually want to play them right now.
