Unusual choice, having Tears for Fears on the soundtrack there.

They never show the Wario amiibo doing stuff. Poor overlooked innocent Wario. :(

Thought the music would be more piano orientated like Epic Yarn's soundtrack. Sounds good anyway. I'm looking forward to this game.

Nintendo Life

Yoshi's Woolly World has been a long time coming, but it's been absolutely worth the wait. It's accomplished platforming within Yoshi's quirky and unique template, and has enough soft cuteness to charm young gamers and melt the hearts of the most jaded of veteran gamers. Along with some of Nintendo's best co-op platforming, tough collectible challenges for skilled players and some simple but neat use of amiibo, it also delivers where it matters the most with clever, witty stage design. This stands up as one of the Wii U's elite games - perfect for snuggled in gaming time.

9/10

THE GOOD
Accessibility for younger players
Layers of challenge for core players
Unlockable S-rank levels are excellent
Poochy is painfully adorable

THE BAD
Too basic for platformer fans
Visuals won't impress everyone
Some collectables are unreasonably hidden
Fun lies in the diversions, not the main game

6/10

Excellent occasionally, good in parts and downright dull in others, Yoshi's Woolly World is a disappointment. On the face of it it's everything I expected from a Nintendo game: charming, colourful, fun, and technically on point. This, sadly, is only part of the story, with Yoshi's Wii U adventure unable to come close to Nintendo's usual brilliance.

Game Central

In Short: A perfectly competent platformer, perhaps Yoshi’s best since Super Mario World 2, but one that is far less unique than its visuals suggest.

Pros: Some clever level design and an enjoyable co-op mode, with plenty of hidden secrets. Great visual style and the two difficulty modes ensure anyone can play.

Cons: Very few new ideas that haven’t already been in previous Yoshi games, let alone other platformers, with too many repeated set pieces and enemies.

7/10

Gamesradar

How willing you are to forgive Yoshi's Woolly World's shortcomings really depends on what you expect from the game. Those looking for something cuddly and vibrant to play with a child or sibling will find it most welcoming, while Nintendo die-hards will recognise this as a safe and uninspiring spin-off, sent out to fill time in between core Mario titles. Everyone, however, will agree that Yoshi's actual yarn-pooping is the cutest thing that'll happen to games in 2015, and for that it deserves a massive hug… but not a stellar score.

And finally, of course, there's the panic. Yoshi's Island wasn't just a game about getting to the final goal, but about transporting a couple of babies there safely with you. That sense of noble fragility is so hardwired into the design that, every time I took a hit in Woolly World, I would find myself instinctively turning about-face and extending Yoshi's tongue to grab at a departing bubble-baby that simply no longer exists in this version. Good-Feel's doing all the carrying this time, and maybe it's so desperate not to drop anything that it's forgotten to take any risks.

A bad game, then? Not at all. Most of the time it's quite a good one. But Woolly World sails perilously close to a genuinely great game, and with little of its own to add, it can only ever feel diminished by the proximity.

Uh oh :s. NLife tend to over score everything. Any big game is a 9 or 10 with them. Looking forward to the Eurogamer review.

It doesn't sound like the return to form I was hoping for but I'm sure there is a fun game in there. Maybe not at launch but a definite pick up.

Sounds like Kirby. Where a lack of difficult and complexity seems to just turn some people off.

Looks like a mixed set of reviews:

Insidegamer (The Netherlands):
8

+ Cool Yoshi’s Island-gameplay in breathtakingly cute animationstyle
+ Balanced power-ups
+ Local co-op = fun

- Using collectibles as replay-value is a bit too easy...
- Short, if you don't collect everything

Some collectables are unreasonably hidden

That's bollocks if you've ever played a Yoshi game in your life. It's like the hidden blocks in Mario - their position is consistent with the game's internal logic. If there's a space, it's usually worth jumping or firing an egg into.

Sounds fine, Kirbys Epic Yarn was almost universally panned for its difficulty alone... i.e you can't die.

Which is weird because it literally never bothered me in that game, or in other games like Wario Land 2 - and evidently most people didnt mind the lack of death in Wario Land 2 enough to lower the score.

I imagine if one enjoyed Kirbys Epic Yarn (which was the best 2 player platformer ive ever played) then one would enjoy this (:

I'm still heavily interested in this game because of Epic Yarn. I thought that game was lovely, from the piano music, to the graphics and gameplay.

Reviews haven't really deterred me any. I'm still looking forward to this on Friday.

Wanted some inspiration to buy this but reviews aren't doing anything for me. Seems every bit the game it looked like it was when it was first shown last year.

I generally know whether I'll like a game or not - I use reviews as a guideline only.

Eurogamer is a site I don't trust at all though - their review of DriveClub was so far off the mark, it made me never trust them again.

Yoshi looks like a good game - who cares if it's not 100% original - if it's fun, I'll enjoy it.

I feel that it's more a lack of any immediately apparent difficulty that seems to have put people off Rainbow Paintbrush and, it looks like, this. I loved playing through Kirby thanks to the challenge of trying to find as many hidden secrets as possible and some incredible gameplay elements. I'm very glad that I picked it up at launch so hopefully I'll get a similar experience with this.

The reviews put me off Epic Yarn and I never got round to buying it. But I've heard so many positive comments about it since (and not just from Squinty  ) that I wont be skipping this for the same reasons.

The Eurogamer review summary makes no sense, its so close to being great that its worse than if it wasn't as good?

Makes no sense.
