I am not questioning the 10s, just the fact that EDGE gave them a 10 when they usually only give a 10 to games that are genuinely revolutionary.

To be fair the review for FFXII read like a 10 and got game of the year from them that year too.

And the 9 was actually a 10, but a printing error meant that they shrunk the 0 and stuck it on the top of a 1, making it look like a 9.

I had my suspicions and now the truth is out.(It was a 10 in my eyes)

I thought it turned everything up to 11, personally. Although it was, basically, unreviewable. The game could, very easily, take up over a hundred hours. I have yet to meet anyone who didn't "give up" on the game because they had already spent 50+ hours on it, and had to move on because they were missing out on a bunch of other games.

I think I put it down around the 70 hour mark (after about 12 months), and I really didn't want to.

I managed to 100% the game after 121 hours  I have only ever spent more time on Phantasy Star Online.

You always try and out do me, Suzz.

I'm hoping the length of time FFXIII is taking means it'll have similar depth. Did you get everyone up to max levels too, then? Or just all the side quests and stuff?

it was only when Halo 3 turned up that they felt the need to hand out 10s like nobodys business

Four games turned up in a short time frame that deserved it, Edge should give a [10] to deserving games regardless of when the last one was or when the next one might be. A ten used to be described as "Miyamoto" so shall we say that only his games should get the score as that was once the definition?

Just all the side quests etc. I don't think I have it in me to get them all maxed that could be at least another 20 hours easy.

I hope XIII is as long and deep as XII but I fear it may be as short as X.

So you're essentially saying don't judge a game purely by its title alone if you don't really know anything else about it (even if you already do)?

If you leave out the brackety bit, then happy days

But the difference is that I DO know about the titles you mentioned.

Hang on, the ones I mentioned?
Captain Rainbow and Alien Crush Returns
I was pointing out had as bad names as the ones you originally mentioned.
Freddi Fish in Kelp Seed Mystery
Kidz Sports: Crazy Golf
Pajama Sam in Don't Fear The Dark
Spy Fox in Dry Cereal

All I was saying as they are all terrible names. I am not saying if they are good are bad, I am saying you cant go saying these games are rubbish as they have terrible names. AND then say these games (which also have terrible names) are great.

Now if you know all about
Freddi Fish in Kelp Seed Mystery
Kidz Sports: Crazy Golf
Pajama Sam in Don't Fear The Dark
Spy Fox in Dry Cereal

Then ignore my ramblings

In fairness to HoC, Captain Rainbow and Alien Crush Returns may have terrible names, but they do at least have a solid gaming pedigree. Whereas "Kidz Sports: Crazy Golf" has a "Z" in place of an "S" in it's name, which is rarely a sign of quality... not just in video-games but in life.

Exactly my point. I'm also assuming that Freddi Fish, Pajama Sam and Spy Fox are essentially three identical but reskinned cheapo adventures, like Anubis II, Billy The Wizard and Rock N Roll Adventures were for Popcorn Arcade.

EDIT: strawberry floating hell, Pajama Sam's a 12-year old PC game.

Now there is a sensible reason to mock it.

Mock old PC games all you want, but you'd strawberry floating love it if the old Lucasarts adventures were remade for Wii.

Not really. How old is Monkey Island again? Would anyone object to that getting a Wii-ware re-release?

I'm not mocking old PC games, I'm mocking gooseberry fool PC games. The age is just another stick to beat it with.

How do you know it's gooseberry fool if you've only just heard of it? Surely you haven't managed to download it and complete it in a matter of minutes?

Humongous, that rings a bell...

Aren't those actually playable under ScummVM?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humongous_(game_developer)

Formed in 1992 by CEO Shelley Day and Creative Director Ron Gilbert as Humongous Entertainment, it is known for point-and-click adventure games intended for children 3-8, such as the Putt-Putt series, the early Fatty Bear series, and the Pajama Sam and Freddi Fish franchises. Ron Gilbert, the company's main game strategizer, helped with many of the game planning and creation stages.
