That's actually less concise.

How about judging a game by early previews and videos and its developer's previous work, then?

To justify that your original post would have to include more than just the daft names.

But yes concise is the wrong word, how about "Or more appropriately"

Sometimes we get suprises, delicious suprises. Like Ninja bread Man.

But they're not Japanese names.

So you're essentially saying don't judge a game purely by its title alone if you don't really know anything else about it (even if you already do)?

Halo 3 absolutely did not deserve an Edge 10, IMO. Certainly one of the most over-hyped games I have ever played.

However in the opinion of Edge it did and their opinion is more respected than yours :)

It recently won the innovation award on top so they clearly stand by it and it has half a page in this months issue also.

I think my main issue was the way EDGE did a complete 180 and decided it was okay to give non-revolutionary games a 10. Personally they changed the way they reviewed games and I felt this was wrong, i was not saying the game was crap, but it was definately too short and heavily concentrated on the online aspect. It was also not much of a leap from the original halo and many could argue the original was the best.

Can i just add i also feel gta4, sm galaxy and the orange box did not deserve a 10, the latter already being reviewed in the form of half life 2.

But the difference is that I DO know about the titles you mentioned.

I think you can judge a book by it's cover:

You can add that, however my opinion of you has just dropped another notch and it was already on the floor :)

What i am saying is the old edge would not have given such sequels a 10.

Half Life 2 deserved a 10 because it really was a proper evolution of the series that gave us some revolutionary ideas like the use of physics and the gravity gun, how can they give a compilation including half life 2 another 10?

SM Galaxy was great, but by EDGEs standards did not deserve a 10, and as for GTA4, i think theres enough support that the game was nowhere near an EDGE 10.

They are all tens though, the simple fact that Edge awarded the score means they deserved it :?

You may not agree but that doesn't change the fact that all those games were awarded a [10].

Because it already had a 10/10 game in the compilation meaning anything less would have taken away the 10/10 Half Life 2 had already achieved. The Orange Box is the most complete 10 game I have ever played.

Put it this way - if EDGE reviewed games then like they do now the following games would have recieved a 10:

GTA3
Gran Turismo 2 and 3
Halo 2
PGR 2
Shenmue 1 and 2
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy 12

I am not questioning the 10s, just the fact that EDGE gave them a 10 when they usually only give a 10 to games that are genuinely revolutionary.

To be fair the review for FFXII read like a 10 and got game of the year from them that year too.

:fp:

Sorry, but it was only when Halo 3 turned up that they felt the need to hand out 10s like nobodys business.

And the 9 was actually a 10, but a printing error meant that they shrunk the 0 and stuck it on the top of a 1, making it look like a 9.
