I love (most) sports and I genuinely enjoy doing exercise, eating healthily and looking after my body. However, a huge and significant proportion of people feel very much the opposite way. If there is an easier way out, such as surgery or medication, then vast swathes of the population simply won't make the effort, no matter how shiny we make our sports facilities.
A certain percentage of people definitely won't make use of better facilities but I'm reasonably certain that enough would that it'd end up being a net gain economically.
Boogie2988 ( the Francis YouTuber) mentioned in a video that his gastric bypass surgery cost $20,000 which I'll use a rough guide figure going forward even though I'm sure the total cost is higher. Theres around 5,000 stomach shrinking procdeures like that carried out each year in the UK so that's around $100,000,000 a year being spent each year and supposedly that number needs to be closer to the French figure of 37,000 to really make a dent in the obesity issue so close to $750,000,000 a year. At that level of cost even a modest increase in people taking part in some of exercise more often would end up with a significant saving for the exchequer.
