You put on a DVD for the first time
...

cry a single tear as its never as awesome or mechanical as putting on a VHS tape.

The oppressed are allowed once every few years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and repress them in parliament.

The only setting worth caring about.

Why? You're not deaf, as far as I'm aware, and I've seen you mention subtitles quite a bit.

I'm not sure why, it's just nicer to follow with subtitles. It's easier than asking your friend "what just happened?" if you don't quite catch anything. Especially if there's awkward accents/dodgy mixing going on.

Doesn't your DVD remote have a subtitle button?

I tend to use the subtitles menu to set the subtitles rather than using the subtitle button on the remote, especially for those DVDs with "English" and "English for the hearing impairment" options. Those would come up as ENGLISH if using the subs button on the remote.

I've never once watched a special feature ever since the LOTR extended versions. Most of the "making of" films are as exciting as watching paint dry.

Just realised I can ask this question.

Does anyone ever listen to the commentary audio instead of the original?

I imagine that for the majority of DVDs this would be pretty boring, but it might work on favourite films/comedys

Yeah, some audio commentaries are strawberry floating quality. I'm trying to remember which film it's for now, but my favourite one ever involved two of the actors eating takeaway food throughout the entire thing and acting like complete twats towards the audio booth guys. Fairly certain one of them walks out 2/3 of the way through as well, so they turn on the audio commentary for a different film and bugger off. Or something. It was great.

I want to say that it was Dodgeball.

Depends on the kind of film. If it's a foreign film, I'll always go to the settings and put the subtitles on. If it's an English-language one, straight to the feature.

I enjoyed the cast commentaries for the Lord of the Rings movies. Helps that I love them though. Big/great cast so plenty of interesting stories, especially from the hobbits.

Don't buy DVD's and haven't done in years. Quality is gash compared to Blu Ray 8-)

But yeah, straight to play movie then I'll have a poke around the Special Features.

All of Peter Kay's Audio commentaries for his TV shows are brilliant. Worth watching the programmes again straight after, as it's like another episode's worth of laughs.
