Having picked up Tomb Raider II over the weekend for just 60p, and being probably a little bit too excited about it for my own good, I was wondering what bargains people here have stumbled upon over the years, either out and about or online. I have seen Cash Converters go as low as 20p for PSone games but they're never any good on the rare times I do have a quick look.

When I was a kid we were pretty poor for a while, so I got loads of stuff at bootsales, although mostly boardgames/warhammer stuff.

What about the magazine KK? Might hunt some down on eBay as there aren't many scans online.

Oh, that's just my own copy from 97. I thought it would be a fitting place to plonk the game...

ICO, Devil May Cry and Tekken 4 for £2 each I believe. Along with a Marantz amp for £10.

Others but I can't remember.. It's been ages since I've seen any video games at car boots or even anything else interesting. I think eBay has killed it so you have to bet on misinformed parents.

Not a boot sale but hard to beat the small ps1 collection with 4 controllers and super slim ps2 in (transparent) binbag outside a bank.

That and as was discussed in the retro thread, you get scalpers/dealers swooping in as soon as a car turns up to grab anything they think they can flip.

Am I the only person who enjoyed this? Really liked the uneven stages.

I hardly played it. I mean, it's a Tekken game sure and it's there for a game with more bearable graphics than Tekken ii I have. Always a multiplayer option and not as tight as SF which I don't own anyway.

Soul Calibur II is my favorite fighter though.

I was put off buying Tekken 4 after reading OPS2's 7/10 review. I did later get it on Platinum. The environments and overall graphical look of the game were probably my favourite of the entire series, but as the last Tekken game I ever played it was definitely the weakest I thought. Beat em ups for me peaked with Soul Calibur 2. Street Fighter is probably better now but that requires a lot of dedication.

Remembered, I also saw The Getaway for a £1...

Most recent one is a sealed copy of Final Fantasy XII for £4.99. Not amazing, but I was pretty pleased with it.

In a charity shop about a year or so ago I got PS1 copies of Final Fantasy VIII and IX for £1.99 each (Platinum version of IX, initial release of VIII).

I got a promo copy of Alpha Protocol on PS3 (came in a CD case with a promo sleeve) from a charity shop if we're counting those. Was 50p or something stupid. The disc has "Not for public sale" or something similar written on it :D

The only downside to getting platinum releases is you lose the disc art.

I've noticed there are suddenly a lot of sealed games on ebay up for sale. It's like someone has sat on all this old stock for years on end. But you do have to be prepared to pay original RRP on the games...unless they're gooseberry fool.

Most games in the 90s that I bought were never sealed though, because the likes of HMV, Virgin, WHSmiths, Toys'R'Us and EB all gave you the disc and manual at the till. Used to infuriate me, so I started shopping at Gameplay instead.

Not a car boot but I remember buying several ex-rental games from Blockbusters for 50p each when they stopped stocking Megadrive/SNES games and again with PS1 games - can't remember everything I got apart from NBA Jam TE, Dragon's Revenge (awesome fantasy themed pinball game), Rage Racer (Ridge Racer spinoff) and some X-games street luge game which was a bit rubbish in hindsight but I enjoyed it at the time.

I also used to get loads of free promo copies of games when my brother worked at Gamestation.

I used to get some bargains years ago when the carboots were still good and people selling things in decent nick.

1989 Zelda Game & Watch 50p
Rocket Knight Adventures Mega Drive boxed/complete £1
Thunder Force IV Mega Drive Boxed £2
ZX Spectrum+2 with like 30 games £8
Wind Waker + Ocarina of Time 50p
Super Smash Bros Melee 50p
Mint condition boxed Mega Drive II (1995) with games and the amazing late life controllers £5
Various consoles both boxed and unboxed from mega drives to N64's £1-£10
Tombi 2 PS1 £2
Yoshi's Island SNES cart £2

I can't remember how many amazing things I've gotten, it's been such a long time since I used to get pick ups like that.

My best deal was a 1541-II disk drive (unboxed but mint) for the Commodore 64, complete with Datel Action Replay Mk V cartridge (i.e. back-up and turbo-load) and ten C64 disc titles (all mint) . Ten quid for the lot - an absolute bargain. I think I got that deal around 1996.

Picked up brand new copies of The Italian Job, World's Scariest Police Chases, Gran Turismo/MotoToon GP2 and Destruction Derby RAW for just £3 each over the weekend.

I'd love to get hold of a sealed copy of Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil Director's Cut and Resi 3. Probably a bit optimistic.

Saw someone at a boot sale today walking about with a SNES Super Mario All Stars boxed console under his arm, there are buggers at all these that go round as people set up asking for games or consoles so no doubt someone got conned out of it.

Yeah, I've never seen anything decent at boot sales, normally just shovelware or PS games that everyone has

Probably someone who worked at a local indie game shop or something picking up stock for cheap to sell for three or four times the price.
