That way they could have the crew that deliberately goes into trouble rather than just stumbles upon it all time, which would probably work a lot better.

What about staying as human crew but a small ship 7 -8 people. Not affiliated with starfleet. Mercenaries. Doing missions for money, looting, rescue jobs etc. (Firefly but set in star trek universe) in fact they could hire Nathan Fillion as the captain.

If they do anything different they should do a series based on the Marquis.

The Star Trek Universe right up to the end of DS9/Voyager seem so sterile especially when it comes to the human race, they're so bloody perfect and harmonious it's almost constipating, it seems like the Mormons are the only humans left in the Universe.

In that case, start it as they first appear or whenever this awesome quote came about.

Why is the Federation so obsessed with the Maquis? We've never harmed you. And yet we're constantly arrested and charged with terrorism. Starships chase us through the Badlands and our supporters are harassed and ridiculed. Why? Because we've left the Federation, and that's the one thing you can't accept. Nobody leaves paradise. Everyone should want to be in the Federation...You know, in some ways you're even worse than the Borg. At least they tell you about their plans for assimilation. You're more insidious. You assimilate people and they don't even know it.

And end it with their demise.

A nice mix of a few arcs and a few standalone episode per season is probably the perfect solution. I just hope the new film creates a need for a new series. It has been too long already without a TV Trek to follow.

I'm hoping for a new series with JJ Abrams running it.

I'm torn because I don't really like the look of the new film but I seem to love everything Abrams touches.

I think I would be really excited if he got behind a series as I think continuing drama is where he is at his best.

I like TNG for at least 3 reasons

1: BOBW
2: Q
3: Lwaxana Troi and her effect on Picard

Even if you meant all of those within a single episode it would still probably count for all the series.

I voted Voager simply because its the one I remember most about. It was the one that always seemd to be on when I flicked on the TV. Some day Ill probably get around to watching all of DS9 in order and from the sounds of things itll be epic but for now Im sticking with Voyager.

They should make the New Frontier books into a series.

If you start from season 1, you'll probably be wondering what all the fuss was about for a while. DS9 started to improve from somewhere in the third season, and becomes amazing from the fourth.

I'd still say start from season 1 though - a lot of the plot threads start in 1 and 2, as well setting the events on Bajor into a context.

Don't expect it to be amazing - you're just laying the groundwork for the later seasons of win.

I might re-watch DS9/Voyager off the back of this thread

I hate coming into a series a few seasons in, theyll alwyas make some reference to something that happened previously and Ill feel I missed something. Always like to start at the beginning of a series. Ill look into acquiring DS9 this summer and give it a damn good watching.
