I had BT Infinity installed this morning. I've gone from this:

to this:

The postcode and phone line checkers both estimated that I'd get around 60Mb down and 20Mb up, so I'm more than happy with my connection :D

BT has completely removed traffic management on all of their fiber offerings. In response Virgin Media's daily traffic management period will now expire at 10:00pm instead of 9:00pm :fp:

Virgin Media wrote:Over the past 6 months with tablets becoming a lot more popular we've seen a change in how you use the internet, using it until slightly later in the evening. Previously people would log off around 9pm, but now we're not seeing a drop off in downstream traffic until 10pm. This is mainly due to people watching TV and streaming content over the internet instead of shutting down their PC and watching TV before they head off to bed.

So because of this we need to move our evening traffic management window to when people are now using the internet. Ensuring that your peak time experience is protected from the impact of people who max out their connection 24/7. So we're changing the evening window for downstream traffic from 16:00-21:00 to 17:00-22:00. The window for upstream traffic will stay the same.

We're not changing any of our thresholds or the duration of the restriction when traffic management is triggered so the same number of people will be affected as before, they'll just be affected slightly later in the evening.

Interesting. :o

I wonder if Sky will bump up their speed in competition, as otherwise twice the download speed is suddenly looking very tempting.

Sky has a 76Mbps download and 19Mbps upload package called Sky Fiber Unlimited Pro for £30 a month. The only way to order it or upgrade is to call them up.

BT should be launching their 330Mbps download / 30Mbps upload fiber-on-demand service for £38 per month + £500 - £1500 installation in the coming weeks. Costs a lot to set up but they are hooking up a dedicated fiber-optic cable to the house.

Moved house a couple of months ago and now my internet isn't quite so terrible :D
There are four of us sharing so the speed can vary but we have seen 80Mb/s before.

I've been getting 0.3Mb/s from Virgin with 80+ ping lately. Paying for 120Mb/s too. :fp:

Shambles atm.

I wish Virgin Media weren't the only ones with Fibre around my area. And it doesn't look like BT Fibre will be here for at least another 1-2 years.

Should be higher, do Virgin throttle it in the evenings?

Yes, if you download more than 10GB between 5-10pm on the 100Mbps package Virgin throttles the connection speed by 50% for five hours.

got myself a brand new PC and just tried to see if any difference as the old PC was 7 yrs old and a bit creaky.

The Ping has dropped dramatically now, although the speeds are the same. Can't complain overall (I'm on BT Infinity)

From what i can see that removal from BT only covers new infinity contracts not old ones. then again i dont use p2p anyway. i just checked My bt out and my average monthly usage is like 650GB! its funny to think a few years ago bt would have told me to piss off with usage like that but now days they dont give a gooseberry fool
