It increasingly feels like most online multiplayer is geared against the casual player. Whether it be the COD or Battlefield model of making you grind through levels to actually get viable competitive equipment, (I don't think I've ever made it to the end of one of these progression trees, multi-prestige players can strawberry float off,) or constant updates that massively change the balance and flow of the game, basically making it unrecognisable if you go away for a few months and come back, like Overwatch or when they utterly shafted TF2 by adding all the items that broke the class system completely.

While I don't think I agree with you (I play multiplayer B4 and B1 regularly and am let's just say not great) about not being able to play the battlefield series without the unlocks I do think there should be ways to queue up for casual matches away from the hardcore tryhard snobs.

Rainbow 6 Siege is a nightmare for this as I somehow managed to fluke wins in my 10 matches it uses to judge rank and I was put into a level far above my ability (which is piss poor) and I ended up just not playing as I was constantly being absolutely dominated by people who clearly played 10 times more than me and knew all the maps intimately. I didn't want easy games I just didn't want games where I was being humiliated and killed from angles I didn't know even existed.
I don't mind losing if I feel I at least stood a chance and when our sunday group did play R6S and got put against teams of our ability it was fun but after a while of getting wins and losses it for some reason decides to promote you to playing against people who just destroy you and the game becomes about as fun as self harm.

Reason why I don't even bother with rs6 siege, it's all about the gadgets rather than gunplay.

Why play anything anymore? Everything is terrible and will continue to be so, until the furious oceans boil and fume and rise to crash down upon this scorched land in a cleansing wave of holy redemption that will free each of us from our mortal selves, hurling mankind towards a destiny preordained since the Beginning and setting in motion the monstrous, uncaring mechanisms of universal inevitability that will see us forgotten amongst the endless stars of the metaverse.

Or else, I was making a humorous dig at myself following the antics happening in the 76 thread.

Who on earth would comment on a game, especially negatively, if they hadn't played it? What sort of crazy world would we be living in if that were the case? :slol:

I love you Taf, but I simply cannot comprehend your worldview at all. I post such things as they are extensions of how I feel towards the game, a game in a storied franchise, one of my favourites, that I feel has the potential to massively improve it. Should I not have an opinion because said opinion is really positive? What's the alternative here? Also, why not simply counter my positivity with negativity? Why come in here and tell me off for being kind without adding to the overarching conversation? I mean, sit on the fence dude!

F1 Online

It's been the same since F1 2015 came out, you join a lobby, get into a race, then 2-3 laps in, you get 'migrating host' come up which usually means you've been kicked from the lobby and are left on an empty track/a track full of ghosted cars.

It wasn't fixed for F1 2016, or 17...

I don't know if it's still happening with F1 2018, but i suspect it is, and it completely ruined the online aspect of the series for me.

The problem being that I only play games in the evening and a small portion of that may be multiplayer, but you have to compete against people who spend all day every day learning all the tricks and maps, then if you dare to play in any way as not being seen as optimal, some little scrote will call you a banana split.

I've had all sorts of interesting messages arrive in my inbox whilst playing Call of Duty over the years, one of my faves was when i was called a camping c**t, i responded by agreeing, and making it known that my tent was extra comfy and i was in possession of a nice big flask of piping hot tea.

Moggy wrote:GTA IV

I loved the early 2D GTA games and adored the PS2 era ones. I was so excited for number 4!

But it was gooseberry fool. I tried to grind my way through it, but it never clicked with me and was just boring.

I wasn't keen either, i know GTA characters are meant to be unpleasant, but the ones in 4 weren't even remotely likeable.

Oh god, the mics, those using them always seem to do the following...

1. Have rubbish loud music playing (often hip hop for some reason)
2. Have a screaming brat causing chaos in the background.
3. Shout lots of abuse (usually in a northern or scottish accent, which i find particularly bizarre, the times i've heard someone say 'fook off' in a strong mancunian accent numbers in the hundreds).

CoD online with PS3 these days tend to be made up of, as far as I can tell, Eastern Europeans who just ramble on through the entire match which is rather annoying. However, there's also always at least one or two of the above you mention.

Through playing Pro Evo Soccer online, I quickly learnt to disable messaging from "strangers" on my PlayStation systems. Things have been far more pleasant since!

One of my favourite CoD moments while having the mic on was this America fella telling vile, obscene jokes, however what was funny was when some other American chap said to him, quite seriously "You're gonna burn in hell"

"I like to travel" was the other fella's response.

You had to be there at thr time of course to fully appreciate it.

To be fair hell can't be all bad and I'm sure parts of it are quite nice to visit.
A bit like Bedford really. Yes it's mostly a shithole but the riverfront is quite nice so only 99% of the place needs completely demolishing and rebuilding.

Brerlappin wrote:Going back my younger days, i remember getting Shadow Dancer on the Atari ST. I fired it up, was initially blown the strawberry float away by the cool ass picture of a Ninja on the main menu. My Mam walked past the door and said "Hows the new game, Brer?", i locked eyes with that magnificent Ninja once more, and in a quivering, shellshocked voice, i shouted "ITS INCREDIBLE!!". She was happy. I was ecstatic. I wondered what kind of Ninja adventures i was about to embark upon, would my Ninja pal be Ninja-ey like a Turtle? Or deadly like Bruce Lee?? I start the game. My Ninja has a Dog. He has a strawberry floating Dog. Im about to go on an excellent adventure with a Ninja and his strawberry floating attack Dog friend. This is like the videogame gods distilled everything bodacious about the 90's and loaded it onto a 3.5" Floppy disk.

So, how was my Ninja adventure? The answer was, my Ninja pal would be one hit killed by every projectile that crossed his path. His Dog may as well have been a dog shaped fart for all the use it was in a Ninja war. The scrolling was so jerky and the framerate so low it was like trying to have a Ninja adventure in a make your own stop motion animation starter kit. I actually think i cried from disappointment afterwards.

I had a similar experience with Primal Rage when i finally got a Mega Drive in 1996. You've no idea the crushing sense of disappointment when you finally get to play a game that has for years seemed like it was the coolest god damn hot gooseberry fool on the block, but you could never play it because you were stuck with an obsolete home computer from 1989, only to finally play it and realize it isnt just bad, its an sin against god. Same goes for Shadow of the Beast. I wanted that game SO. BAD. Then i finally got a copy of the Mega Drive version only to realize it was actual, literal dogshit.

I feel your pain. The 80s were a terrible era for the boxart of games building you up for a terrible gaming experience.
