Unless Sony manage to completely strawberry float things up, I will definitely be getting rid of this for a Z4. The Z3 seems like a bit of a stop-gap. The fact you can wash it under the tap has to be one of the greatest innovations of all time.

Do you mean the Z2? Don't think the Z3 is out yet. I could be wrong.

Yeah, I think the Z3 is coming in September/October. I was just going on the basis of the rumours I've read - there doesn't seem to be anything there that is radically different from Z2. I think if I wait till Z4 the leap from 1 to 4 will appear really substantial.

Does anyone remember when you actually spoke to someone when ringing to retrieve voice mail?

strawberry floating hell some of you had some awful phones. Anyway, heres my list

Image
Nokia 3210 My very first phone, I remember I saved up for a while and bought it without my parents knowing thinking they wouldnt approve. Turned out they didnt give a gooseberry fool and would have got me it for my birthday if Id asked! Anyway its a true legend of a phone, just about everyone I know had one or wanted one. It lasted me for a good few years, still have it at home somewhere and it still turns on but the battery only lasts a few minutes now, hence why I needed to upgrade.

Image
Nokia 3410 Sticking with the Nokia camp I got this little beauty, it could play "proper" games, albeit just some old Atari stuff like asteroids and pong. Probably still works, dont actually know where it is, I traded my brother for my next phone, his school didnt allow camera phones at the time and mine did so we swapped phones.

Image
Panasonic GD87 My first camera phone and my first step away from Nokia, a cracking phone to be honest, the camera was pretty solid, it had a notification screen that you could change the colour on, a button that you could use to take selfies, before selfies were a thing, none of which I ever really used. It wasnt as reliable as a Nokia and it eventually broke due to wear and tear, it used to turn off every time I flipped it open, the first phone that broke on me.

Image
Nokia 6230 Back to Nokia, I wanted something simple that worked, a lot of phones seemed to rotate and flip and do all kinds of things I didnt care about, this one was aimed at business but it did everything, felt good to have a Nokia again. This was also my first bill phone, I got the phone for free if I signed up for a bill phone and cos I always had a job and a steady income it made sense to move on from PAYG. It was eventually taken by my Dad, he didnt want to upgrade his phone and needed a working battery but I was willing to upgrade so I did.

Image
Nokia 5310 XpressMusic Apparently the XpressMusic bit is actually in the title, anyway, same deal with the previous phone, I didnt want too many gimmicks I just wanted a small phone that did the job, this had the gimmick of music control buttons on the side of the screen but I never used them and they could be easily ignored. This one lasted until I got my first Android phone, the last week I had it I was in a leg brace and the screen cracked when it hit off it in my pocket. Still the only phone Ive had break due to my action rather than wear and tear, even though I was planning on replacing it anyway.

Image
Sony Ericsson Experia X10 The first phone I actually was hyped for, I was there day 1 to pick one up, the shiny interface, the big screen, all that stuff. But it wasnt long before I turned off all the "improvements" Sony had made to the Android UI and realised all they did was slow things down and made the phone unusable sometimes. This phone was also the reason that I started using FB and Twitter, it had that functionality and I wanted my phone to be all it could be. Eventually the battery started to fade and it wasnt getting new Android updates so I needed an upgrade.

Image
Samsung Galaxy Nexus I9250 The second phone I really looked forward to, I even jumped networks to get it. After hating the skin over the Android UI in my previous phone I went for the stock experience with this one. At this stage Android was a pretty solid OS, it didnt need skinning so I was very happy with this phone. Same story as before, battery started to fade so it was upgrade time.

Image
LG Nexus 5 My current phone and sticking with the stock android theme, something Im probably going to stick with for a lone time. Had to jump through a lot of hoops to get this before it was "officially" available in Ireland but it was worth the hassle. It also meant I was able to switch to a SIM only contract, get the same minutes, data etc and pay less so a win all round. It really is fantastic device, does everything well and is able to take a few knocks from time to time. I also use the wireless charging on it quite a bit but I have no idea if this will help or hinder the battery life issues that affected my previous 2 phones.

Writing that was actually enjoyable, I was going to just list the phones but the trip down memory lane meant I actually wanted to write a bit about each phone. It took me a while to track down the Panasonic, I remember it for the button and screen on the lid but a lot of pics I found of it were of it open so it just looked like a generic phone. Amazing how many memories are actually attached to my phones down through the years.

I'm trying to find an old Sony phone I had. It was silver, had a jog wheel on the side. Think it was a J-series. I've found the J70 which was similar, but I don't think it was that one.

Ah, fair enough. I did end up googling the Z3 after your post; can't believe it's coming out so soon - and Samsung and HTC are bringing out newer versions of the S5 and the One M8, too. Phone manufacturers :fp:

It was one of the few flip phones to put the camera in the right place too, at the top of the case. So many others put it right next to the hinge which just looked terrible in comparison.

I used to flip mine open and closed like a Star Trek communicator :slol:

Tried GSM Arena? Page 2 & 3 of the Sony listing have a bunch of phones with wheels on the side.

Phillips C12
First ever phone, could text and call and that was it, but I was 16 and not many people I knew had phones then, in fact only 1 mate I could text!
Image

Ericson (?)
Collected coupons with coke and paid about £20 for it. Rubbish really (was on one2one network!) had changeable face (mine was coke due to promotion)
Image

Nokia 3210
Still around today and still works. I even had it modded to include rumble and extra game 8-)
Image

Nokia 3310
Evolution of Nokia and just as damn near unbreakable but doesn't hold a place in my heart like 3210 which saw me through first year Uni! It did have WAP though. Slow expensive teletext :datass:
Image

Samsung flip phone (?)
Design was cool, slim small and had dual screens so you could see who was calling before you answered. Was the first I had to include Polyphonic ringtones
Image

Sony Ericson K750i
A mate raved about Sony Ericson phones and this crazy new thing called "Bluetooth" also first to have a camera albeit really awful, at the time was amazing!
Image

Sony Ericson W810i
I had brand loyalty now. This was ace, had Walkman AND phone. Years ahead of apple...
Image

LG Viewty
My first foray into touch screen. Was a bit naff and unresponsive (no multitouch) but it had haptic feedback so you knew when you had pressed the screen. Despite claiming to be smart phone it really wasn't but I loved it despite its flaws. The camera was amazing for the time!
Image

LG Viewty 2
Deliberately ignored iPhone for this. Mistake. Thought it would build on what I loved about the first but was infinitely rubbish. Still wasn't a real smartphone but now it was apparent compared to rival phones. Camera was excellent again though (although had awful shutter response for moving shots)
Image

iPhone 4
Finally made the plunge and boy was it worth it. Best phone ive ever had, hands down. The fact I still have it 4 years later and its not let me down says it all.
Image

Future? Probably iPhone 6. I've been holding off because my 4 has been fine, but now battery is going and OS is running slow so its finally time to upgrade.

Your first phone is a 5s?

Fuxake. There's no way you can possibly appreciate a phone like that on as many levels as someone who used to use one that had a monochrome/green screen, and only came with Snake and digitised ringtones.

Only ever had two personal phones:

1) Siemens C60
2) Nokia 5800 (current)

Work phones:

1) HTC Desire S
2) iPhone 5 (current)

Don’t really care for phones.

Never gave a gooseberry fool about phones until smartphones became good enough to be used for decent internet access.

Nokia 3330 was my first mobile ever and lasted the longest before being replaced. Probably early 2001 to about mid 2007.

Image

Nokia 6080 till about Spring 2009 when it began to stop working. I had the gold button version:

Image

Then Samsung G600 was my first ever phone on a contract. It was the first phone I had that could store a decent amount of text messages without having to delete too. Spring 2009 to December 2010:

Image

Then in December 2010 Android supremacy started along with Giffgaff network combo, went for Aryan Android experience with the Nexus S bought SIM free as contracts were bad value:

Image

Nexus 4 was owned for the shortest period of time but I bloody loved it. December 2012 to November 2013:

Image

November 2013 to present is the Nexus 5, the low price of the Nexus devices plus selling Nexus 4 to my brother plus having wanted 1920x1080 in a phone since the launch of the Nexus S, I couldn't resist:

Image

I can't see myself upgrading to a Nexus 6(?)/Nexus 5 2014 edition later this year as apart from a the Nexus series notably gooseberry fool camera, everything else with the phone is high end enough to last me till 2560x1440 becomes the new norm without having shitty battery life. Probably the only way for me to consider a non Nexus device would be if they priced it so highly that it rivalled a SIM free Galaxy Note 3.

The best thing about the k800i was that they used an actual strawberry floating flash instead of some LED and ISO garbage. I can't believe that never took off.
