Nowadays my most frustrating moment is usually what I'm currently playing. My patience is not what it once was! :shifty:

is that on PC or console? it wasnt that bad on PC but i think the mouse+keyboard is a big advantage

A slightly different once: My mates and I have a big FIFA tournament 3-4 times a year, with usually 8-12 people entering. Been going for 4 years or so now and a few tournaments ago I threw a 2-0 lead in the final against my mate with 10 minutes to go, giving away a penalty in the last minute. I then crumbled in extra time and lost. He now leads the overall standings with 5 titles to my 2. Would make such a difference if I'd won that final and it was only 4-3. Still haunts me to this day.

I did a Nightmare Difficulty Collection run on Alan Wake and missed one bastarding flask.

One.

One of the Extreme tracks on Trials. Failing 500 times is hard to take, but to fail on the final obstacle after a torturous battle over everything that came before, only to be returned to the start is just soul destroying.

RIP Xbox controller. :-(

I’d kinda blocked this one out of my mind because I got so frustrated by it. I’m still annoyed now that I have remembered it.

The Pitt expansion for Fallout 3. Specifically, the train yard. One of the optional objectives is to collect 100 ingots and, to this day, I have only found 99. On several occasions I have searched... searched everywhere... but I can’t trace that 100th ingot. I became convinced that there must be a bug and one ingot is missing.

My memory block has worked pretty well up until now but I think I will have to make arrangements to conduct another search at some point.

Yes. Without a doubt.
I had some fancy wireless controllers for my PS2 at the time. One of them did not survive the spinning death towers of Hades.

Holy strawberry float.

Probably back in my competitive time trialling days on F-Zero GX. Big Blue Drift Highway caused me to break my controller by repeatedly throwing it against the wall.

Other than that, some of the bullshit I've encountered on Football Manager over the years has been astounding. 2-0 ahead, at home, against a vastly inferior 10 men and go onto lose 2-3, that kind of thing.

Also, Beaver Bother in Creepy Castle on Donkey Kong 64. BB is a very annoying mini-games where, as a small crocodile, you must shepherd a number of beavers into the little hole in the floor. In Creepy Castle the target set is really strawberry floating difficult and generally requires many, many attempts to complete. Eventually after a semi-finalists run, you manage to do it.

Later on in the very same level there is another Beaver Bother challenge and IIRC the target is even higher. Just FFS game why u troll me.

One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

This was going to be my suggestion as well. It’s so frustrating when you can pretty much see the end of the track, but that one last bastard obstacle is in your way. :x

It feels so good when you finally crack it though.

I cant remember which one but it was the last gap in the last track and I just could not get across it. I knew what I had to do but I just couldnt execute it. Hundreds of attempts meant I could breeze past the rest of the track but this one section just could not be bested. Never did get across that gap sadly.

Couple more.

When GTA4 was the new hotness there was the chance to get a real actual key to the city if you got 100% completetion and sent proof to Rockstar. I wanted it. I went around the city and found every pigeon, bar one. I could never find that last one, and even with the aid of guides etc could never find it. They were hidden in really tricky ways so sometimes they were completely obscured and it had to be killed on faith as there was no notification (IIRC). The game stayed at 99.x% completion and I never got the key.

WoW. When I really got into my raiding in WotLK I got into a good guild and we were working on killing the Lich King. We were nowhere close to the first but we were in the first waves, before they dropped the difficulty. Actual weeks of night after night, getting Sindragosa to single digit % health and wiping. Reset, repeat. True definition of madness. Never did kill her.

When God of War came out I beat it twice. I remember reading stuff like this afterwards and honestly not being sure which part people were referring to. My third playthrough, I was on MSN with Raze at the time and I checked with her that I was at the right part, before doing it on the first go. But I figured that might have been because I'd played it a lot by then.

So when the remaster came out, I looked out for it, and when I got there, I scrambled up on my third or fourth attempt.

I'm not bragging about this. I just don't understand why it's a difficulty "highlight". It feels around about right for the rest of the game. The whole game is challenging, and I don't get why the rest of it is fine but that climbing section is such a difficulty spike.

To this day, I'm still convinced there's some part of the traversal, or technique used to climb in that game, that people aren't getting.

Oh gooseberry fool I thought of another: The Vice City "Recruit the Driver" race. The dude's in a tripped out dragster, I'm pretty sure you got a standard sedan. The AI just burns through the route like an automated GPS, you have to contend with traffic, peds and handling. I beat the strawberry floater after about 50 tries and even then only after I accidentally rammed him off a bridge.

I've just checked which part this was. I'd assumed it was the optional challenge thing where you have to go through wave after wave of enemies.

Now I know which bit it is, I totally agree with jiggles.

Struggling to think of many good ones, two spring to mind...

Mizar (last Boss on Jet Force Gemini; N64) really difficult to beat, rage inducing. Even with all health power-ups, his electricity guns saps nearly all your life in an instant. You pummel him with all your missiles and weapons and have next to no ammo left, took me ages to finally beat it.

Banjo-Kazooie N64, nothing to do with the gameplay but loading up the main menu I'm sure I pressed Z or something and deleted my whole game file. I'd got up to Click Clock Wood but never entered the level, I've been so bitter and twisted about the whole event I never played and completed B-K until 2015 on Xbox One. I'd imagine it's my own fault - I'm a serial tapper! I'm always pressing daft button combinations like, LRLRLLRRA, Down, Y, Down, Down, Y or trying to spell out words using the buttons; ABBA and BABY spring to mind!

My word that must have been satisfying.

Absolutely. I did it on the very next go (300+ faults, but still....) There are no Trials tracks that have beat me yet. Some of the achievements can strawberry float off mind.
