The Hoody, God's greatest gift to the fashion world, offering comfort, simplistic design and a hood to keep you dry or warm in those wintry months. Yet it has been connotated, or should I say forced with the sterotype of stabbings and ASBOS. Personally I feel comfortable in one, keeps me warm and is often the easiest thing for a guy to just sling on before a lecture, or on the way to work. Yet I hate the reaction I get from others, once I'm seen wearing a hoody, or if heaven forbid I put the hood up due to snow, hail, rain or cold, people look in terror or move quicker. Especially old people, I feel so sly when the person in front of me can barely walk yet she tries to sprint away in fear!! But the fact is they've been around for years (middle ages apparently) and in films used for crime..etc.. yet it seems to be that only in the UK they are such a feared item of clothing to the public.

They're very fashionable, really practical, overall a good bit of clothing.

It's just the hoodie thugs who have to ruin it for everyone.

I don't ever wear my hood up on my hoodies (even when it's raining actually), people would probably think i'm going to mug them.

I also get a lot of old people looking over their shoulder when they hear me coming and then they start walking faster.

I look about 15 when I wear one, so they are not for me.

Pisses me off when shopping, trying to find a nice warm sweater to wear, and all the interesting stuff has a hood attached.

I always stick a hoody on when I'm off out for a stab or mug.

American Apparel hoodies are the shiz.

And luckily I don't live in a country where every teenager has dreams of slicing and dicing.

I do still have a non sporty hoody I wear sometimes. Quite frankly though, I fail to see the point. It's just a crappy piece of material hanging off the neck of an otherwise good jumper.

Hoodies are fine except for the sports branded ones. They are the hoodies that people associate with ASBOS

I have no strong feelings about them. They are fairly unexciting as pieces of clothing go.

This is exactly why they need to reintroduce a smart dress code into night clubs. When I was 18/19 we used to get suited up when off down town (as we never went that often: The local was easier to get to and has a pool table) and used to laugh at all the hoodies/trainers/jeans that got refused entry to all the clubs for looking scruffy.

These days they assume people in suits are office workers who have been on a bender since 1730 and want to cause trouble, whilst the jeans/trainers/hoodie brigade get left in. Its not drinking laws that need changing, its dress codes. It would bring a bit of sophisitication back to going out on the town.

This was in 1cmanny1s silly sunday question!

but that was ages ago,

Its not only happening in the uk, some malls have banned them from being worn here.

If i were them i would focus more on the people, not what they wear.

I have got a few, but wouldn't really want to wear them in public.

Maybe you should change the places you go to. There are a few pubs round my way that have a 'no sports wear' after 7pm type dress codes for instance. They seem ok with Vans/Cons though, I guess it's just a good way to keep the scally contingent at bay.

Hoodies are fine, I find it slightly amusing that an item of clothing now has such a stigma attached. I think it's a self fulfilling prophecy though. As soon as the hoodie meme came into being kids started wearing them to look hard.

To be honest it's tracksuits and baseball caps that are the real chav attire of choice.

I wear my Bristol Uni one quite a lot - even though I no longer go to the uni or live there.

Because everyone should know I'm a snob who went to a proper uni

8-)

Ive been wearing hoodies all my life, b4 they had the stigma attached to them and i continue to wear them. The joke is, most the scrotes that cause trouble don't really wear hoodies, they wear tracksuit tops without hoods and baseball caps.

I agree, sort of. There is nothing quite like going out in smart attire. I've never been turned away for looking too smart though.
