As most of us who have been gaming for many years will know, certain in game sound effects (or console startup sounds) can get permanently etched into your memory in the same way certain songs do in the form of 'Ear Worms'.

So without further rambling, heres my top 5.

1. The classic SEEEEGAAAA intro noise.

2. Sonic the Hedgehog's ring collect sound effect .

3. the hiss of a Cacedemon in Doom.

4. The crowd noises in Rollercoaster Tycoon.

5. The Gamecube startup noise.

2. PS1 startup
3. Super Mario Bros. theme tune
4. Pacman’s “wakka wakka wakka wakka”
5. Lemmings screaming “Oh no!”

I always used to hear some kid shouting "Move your torso!" Every 10 second :lol:

Damn rogue filth.

Ooo Wow level up is a good one. Quite liked the loot sound too.

Merlock was a good one too for impact, hated to hear it but it was memorable and had impact.

It might not really fit within the remit of this topic but this will be in my head forever (much better than Magical Sound Shower)...

I use the WoW level jingle as my WhatsApp message for a certain group.

Edit: It may have been another sound effect though. It seems to not be there anymore, must'a been my last phone.

Lists! Love a good list, and this one is pretty original!

1/ That sound you get when inserting coins into an Atari arcade machine from around 1985 onwards. Gauntlet, Super Sprint etc. Takes me back every time.

2/ Getting seen in MGS. I jump every time I play any MGS game. :lol:

3/ The wonderful reverb/echo sound effect SNK put on the tail end of combos in the KoF series. It really makes you feel like you've just knocked your opponents block off. The following vid has some good examples.

4/ Quake Super Shotgun. Boom mofo, you dead! :nod:

5/ PlayStation One start up.

I mean, it goes without saying but....
