Because then Youtube wouldn't have as much ability to (un)subtly influence the behaviour and watching habits of their users.

Can’t be that, YouTube is owned by Google who have the motto “don’t be evil”.

Not any more!

Google’s unofficial motto has long been the simple phrase “don’t be evil.” But that’s over, according to the code of conduct that Google distributes to its employees. The phrase was removed sometime in late April or early May, archives hosted by the Wayback Machine show.

“Don’t be evil” has been part of the company’s corporate code of conduct since 2000. When Google was reorganized under a new parent company, Alphabet, in 2015, Alphabet assumed a slightly adjusted version of the motto, “do the right thing.” However, Google retained its original “don’t be evil” language until the past several weeks. The phrase has been deeply incorporated into Google’s company culture—so much so that a version of the phrase has served as the wifi password on the shuttles that Google uses to ferry its employees to its Mountain View headquarters, sources told Gizmodo.

"Do the right thing!" for the people who pay us

It's like the utter mess that is the Reddit re-design. Not done because it was needed or wanted or makes anything easier to use, just done to make adverts and promoted content more prominent.

We find that some viewers are able to more easily find the videos they want to watch when we order the subs feed in a personalized order

whut  presumably if you subscribe to something it's a good indication that it's content you want.

I'm already feed up of the main feed being populated by random American late night chat shows

When I open Facebook, it's because I want to see what people have posted since I last checked it.

When I open Tumblr, it's because I want to see what people have posted since I last checked it.

When I view my YouTube subs, it's because I want to see what people have posted since I last strawberry floating checked it.

Stop telling me what I should want to strawberry floating see and just put them in the order they were posted.

In fairness, our company motto is "Right first time, on time, every time" and we barely go a day without a strawberry float up.
