Could have called this. My mate said yesterday that there were signs up in the Bromley store saying that there would be no more cash refunds. He also said that there were some fairly severe price cuts going on (Arcade 360 £100).

I hope that this doesn't mean bad news for too many people here. I wonder if somebody will snap them up.

HMV seem to have the high street for music/dvds sewn up now - no more Woolis/Zavvi

Its now only HMV vs GAME in the gaming market on the high street too (although HMV has upped the competition recently, this is bad news bears). I'm really struggling to think of any obvious buyers for Zavvi. :(

Given the problems they've been having I think their really was no chance of that anyway.

Gamestation?

I don't know. Virgin could buy it back and give the pound back ;)

Gamestation and GAME are run by the same people. GAME bought it out last year.

Wow. Things are getting crazy on the high street. Another 2,500 people could be out of work :(

I heard on the news this morning that Whittards were filing for administration too.

They do Coffee/Chocolate things don't they?

Also banana split Shop - I'm sorry "Officers Club" too. But they've sold a fair portion of their business on.

We'll see more in the New Year I expect...

Game own Gamestation now don't they? Even though both are run independently from each other the money's all still going down the same route.

Much like Woolworths its hardly a big surprise, incredibly over-priced store in most cases and the overheads must be pretty huge. The Manchester store is massively over-staffed, has dozens of TV's and consoles switched on at all times and is an absolutely huge store to boot.

Although Whittards has been bought out by some private investors....

So it may keep going. I hope so, that's where I get my coffee from.

But......it's very sad if people start losing their jobs.

Went there last week to get some gift vouchers for chrimbo. They said they weren't doing any. I found it a bit odd. Vouchers are bread and butter for these stores.

That maybe the problem, I thought they do tea and coffee, not bread and butter? ;)

Have it on very good authority that Waterstones the bookshop will be going into admininstration on the first trading day of the New Year.

The way things are going I honestly think that the concept of High Street shopping will be dead in 10 years or so and it will be Tescos or the web for everything!

I wouldn't read into that one too much. I heard they were turning over a new leaf.

I think I agree with Rllmuk members - a card shop will go soon.

They're overpriced, and much cheaper alternatives available elsewhere.
