Sort of. I'm actually a bit scared at the moment. Today I recieved my first set of Open University course materials in the post and after reading the opening booklet I'm worried about how it's all going to work out. I mean I've been self teaching myself Japanese for I think a year and a half now? I've been going fine with that, but this is my degree. My entire future depends on this. I don't need a good grade to get a working visa outside of Europe, but having a good grade will obviously help me on my career path.

Once I get started I'm sure I'll feel fine about it all, but I've always been a person who worries a lot.

If you can teach yourself Japanese alone, open university will be a doddle, if you want to do something, you'll do it. If you don't you won't. You want to do it, so you have nothing to worry about.

I start Uni again next week. So much nicer than last year, 1st month of uni in 1st year is horrible. it's lovely knowing who I'll be living and studying and socialising with next year!

Is the course more Japanese language StayDead? If it is, you'll probably breeze through it. You've obviously got a passion for the place and seem to have enjoyed learning the language previously, so I think you'll be fine.

Aye. Generally if someone has a burning passion for something, they can and will succeed.

Nah It's Computing and ICT. (The OU's equivellant or computer science). I've always wanted to go into something IT based since I was a kid. When I was 6 I told my dad I wanted to be a programmer, I just never got around to learning any languages. I'm looking forward to doing it, but it's so daunting.

Once you get the jist of the language it comes down to logic more than anything, the hardest part is always learning the syntax (I thought that a double was some sort of method that doubled the number you put next to it :fp: )

Also have you thought about doing any qualifications in japanese, like a GCSE or A-level I don't think it would be much work as you probably know most of the stuff and you would just have to sit the exam, also it would help with getting a visa if you had official qualifications showing you knew the language.

I blame Tnman if one of us had made the thread we could still have weekly title changes, that would bring in the people. :shifty:
