PostUK Charts Week Ending 21/04/12: Geralt Sinks Battleship
by Delusibeta » Mon Apr 23, 2012 12:25 pm

Polish role-player The Witcher 2 has stormed the UK all-format charts, taking first place.
Reigning chart champion FIFA Street, last week's number one, was booted down to second.
The Witcher 2's chart victory was well deserved: Simon Parkin awarded the game 9/10 in Eurogamer's Witcher 2 review. 98 per cent of sales counted last week were for the new Xbox 360 version, although Chart-Track does not count PC digital download sales.
The UK top 40 otherwise remains unchanged. Last week's other three new releases failed to find chart placings: Bleach: Soul Resurrection on PlayStation 3, Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention on Vita and Battleship on every format ever.
FIFA 12, Kinect Star Wars and Mass Effect 3 made up the rest of the top five, respectively. Chart stalwarts Tiger Woods 12, Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Mario & Sonic Olympics and Modern Warfare held firm in the remainder of the top 10.

Congrats to CD Projekt for a very solid port and well deserved large pile of console money as a result. That said, considering the Enhanced Edition upgrade was free to people who bought the vanilla game on PC, the fact that 360 sold 98% of Witcher 2 EE copies this week shouldn't be a big surprise. The biggest surprise is the complete and utter no-show for the Battleship tie-in game, although the lack of Disgaea 3 is a bit disappointing if not surprising (what with it being a port of a nearly four year old game, and a very Japanese one to boot on a format that isn't terribly popular in the UK).

Great news for CD Projekt Red. They deserve as much success as possible for releasing an awesome game and being one of the most generous developers out there.

Considering that the PC version gets the EE upgrade for free, not big surprise. I wouldn't be too surprised if it turns out when digital downloads are included that the vanilla PC version had a bigger launch in the UK than the 360 version (Kinect Star Wars sold about 11k this week, and that's number 2).

You have to suffering a severe bout of brain fever to a) not own The Witcher 2 on PC already if you wanted to play it on PC or b) Buy the PC EE at 40 quid when you can get the standard game for 12 and get the EE update anyway.

They don't take into account Digital Sales, but in the charts' defence Steam (the biggest digital retailer) don't release their sales figures and they must account a lot.

I wonder if they did count them then if the random 'on sale' games would make it into the official charts.

Lego Grand Theft Auto... You KNOW you would buy it.

Wait, so the number one game didn't even break the 20k barrier?

The UK market is truly in the shitter.

Where did you get the 20k figure from? All we know is Star Wars sold about 11k and FIFA street about 15k.

Haven't you talked to the reporter in the game? It shouldn't come as a surprise.

Poor sales for Mass Effect 3 (PS3) then...

Unless it's there and I'm just blind.

Number 17.

It's apparently a rubbish port. Doesn't deserve to sell.
