If they wanted to get rid of one of them, surely Gamestation.co.uk was the obvious choice. Gameplay has far more of a brand presence online.
I'd guess they got rid of whichever one was performing most poorly. If Gameplay.co.uk was bringing in the most money then I doubt even GAME upper management would be stupid enough to close them down over one of the others.
In terms of which retail store to close branches of though, Gamestation are almost certain to be the obvious choice in towns where they have both a GAME and a Gamestation. In places I've been to one with each, the Gamestation has always been the smaller and emptier one. Closing some of the branches is also an ideal chance for clearance sales to bring in much needed quick cash.
Wonder if they'll do anything like that for Gameplay.co.uk. Just have a one day blowout sale to shift stock.
