I don't work at Evo any more, so this isn't the bullet proof info it might once have been, but an April launch seems a little unlikely to me.

Was a November release ever really on the cards, from what you could tell before you left? Seems ridiculous that it's been delayed this long if it was originally intended to be a PS4 launch title.

Well, I'm limited in what I can say, really. But yeah, it was supposed to be a launch title and we were working with that as the target until right up until we realised it was impossible (which was pretty late in the day).

At the moment, it wouldn't be fair for me to offer more detail than that.

Christ. I was/am so excited about this game.

I really hope the delays are because they're making it a 9/10. Not because they're trying to rescue a 5/10 from being a laughing stock.

It's not like Sony have exclusives falling out of their ears in the first half of the year. So they should give Infamous: Second Son at least a month's breathing room before they release DRIVECLUB. So each game has a chance to find an audience before being labelled as 'old.'

Not sounding good for DriveClub...

Sony’s Gone ‘Back to the Drawing Board’ to Make Driveclub ‘Great’ - “…we’d be doing everyone a disservice if we shipped it before it was ready.”

We got a chance to speak to Sony’s Scott Rohde – one of the men in charge of Sony’s family of first party studios – about the status of its phantom racing game.

“What I will say is that it all comes back to that fundamental principle, and that’s that we want to build great games,” Rohde said. “And we really don’t want to release a game before it’s ready. And sometimes, this happens in the normal course of business, where we think we’re on track to deliver what we think is going to be a great game, and when we get closer, we realize that we’d be doing everyone a disservice if we shipped it before it was ready.”

“So, I think that at PlayStation, perhaps more than at other places, we’re willing to kinda eat that [cost],” Rohde continued, “and go back to the drawing board and make sure the game is great before we ship it. And that’s what’s going on right now with that game.”

When asked about when it’ll launch, Rohde said, “We’re not announcing any specifics on that yet.” When pressed on if it would still come out sometime in 2014, Rohde refused to say, though Sony PR stepped in to say that we’d get more details soon.

I think one of the biggest issues with this game from a technical standpoint, is that it was designed from scratch to run at 30fps, and then literally months before launch the developers felt pressured into making it 60fps. They should have stuck to their guns and released the game, then changed their targets for their next project, it didn't seem to hurt Need for Speed too badly. Switching from 30 to 60 without making some significant reductions in graphical quality (which I'm sure would have gone down well), or going back to the drawing board was never going to happen. Seems they've taken the 2nd option.

Yeah this will be sent to die later in the year, with Sony then closing Evolution :(
