Sony has now shipped 100 million PS4 consoles worldwide. The fastest console to hit the milestone.

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) today announced new sales milestone for PlayStation®4 (PS4™).
PS4 has now cumulatively sold through more than 91.6 million units*1 globally as of December 31, 2018.
Within the above number, PS4 has sold through more than 5.6 million units*2 globally during the 2018 holiday season*3.

Sony has revealed the total sales of PS4 hardware, software, and the health of PlayStation Plus in its latest financial report.

Published this morning, Sony’s Q2 FY2018 report paints a pretty picture of the PlayStation business. Though there is some slowdown in hardware sales, it’s far from being big enough.

In the three months ended September 30, 3.9 million PS4s were sold, a 300,000 unit drop over the same period last fiscal year. This late in the generation, these sales prove Sony doesn’t necessarily need to cut the price.

PS4 has now shipped 86.1 million units in total, and it’s on track to reach 100 million by the end of the next fiscal year.

PS4 Sales Pass 50 Million Units Worldwide

Sony announced today that it's sold 50 million PlayStation 4 consoles worldwide as of December 6. That figure pertains to units sold through to consumers and also covers the PS4 Pro.

For Black Friday, Sony said the PlayStation brand enjoyed the best week in the company's history. However, no specifics were provided. A third-party report claimed that Microsoft's Xbox One outperformed the PS4 on Black Friday.

In terms of game sales, PS4 software sales stand at more than 369.6 million across retail and via the PlayStation Store as of December 4.

Sony's latest financials reveal a further 3.9m PlayStation 4 consoles were shipped between the start of July and end of September, taking the worldwide tally up to 47.4m PS4s shipped. PS4 passed the 40 million worldwide sales milestone in May.

That three-month period included the launch of the cheaper PS4 Slim console, which arrived in 500GB form 16th September, and 1TB form 29th September.

That three-month period did not include the 13th October launch of PlayStation VR, sales of which, Sony said in the financial report, "are on track".

2m PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold in the UK, MCV can reveal.

Sony’s home console sailed past the milestone over the weekend, and reaches this level faster than it managed to with PlayStation 2. The machine is currently the best-selling UK games console for 2015 so far.

All data is courtesy of retail sales tracker GfK Chart-Track, and is based on their estimates for the total UK market.

“Reaching the milestone of two million PlayStation 4 consoles in the UK in less than 18 months is an achievement we are very proud of,” PlayStation’s UK boss Fergal Gara told MCV.

“To be the best selling 'next generation' console in Britain - installing faster even than the PlayStation 2 - is testament to an amazing and constantly improving product, the hard work of our trade partners and the team at PlayStation UK, and most importantly, the passion of the players. I would like to thank every one involved in helping us achieve this landmark."

PS4 has hit its 2m UK sales mark after 75 weeks on sale. It hit the 1m milestone after 42 weeks.

Worldwide, PS4 has now sold through 22.3m consoles.

TOKYO, March 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) today announced that the PlayStation®4 (PS4™) computer entertainment system has cumulatively sold through more than 20.2 million units worldwide as of March 1. PS4 continues to demonstrate the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation® hardware history.

"We are so grateful for the enormous support from PlayStation® fans worldwide, and we are truly humbled that gamers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play," said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. "We remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver unique and interactive entertainment experiences powered by the network and the PS4 system's deep social capabilities."

The PS4 system's games portfolio will continue to expand with highly anticipated titles such as Batman: Arkham Knight (Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment), Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd.), Bloodborne, Until Dawn, Tearaway Unfolded, and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (SCE Worldwide Studios). The independent development community will also continue to deliver innovative new titles for PS4 including No Man's Sky (Hello Games).

SCE will continue to expand the world of PS4 to deliver entertainment experiences that are only possible on PlayStation.

The PS4 system is currently available in 123 countries and regions worldwide.

That figure was fuelled by an impressive 6.4m PlayStation 4 units shipped to shops and a whopping 147m game sales. The same period last year, 4.5m PS4s and 128m games were sold, and the Game and Network Services division saw a 12.4bn yen (£69m) operating income.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015- ... -to-profit

Sony has announced that it had shipped 3.3m PlayStation 4 consoles during the three months between July to September, which boosted revenues in the company's game division up 84 per cent year-on-year.

Another 800,000 PlayStation 3 consoles were also shifted during the same timeframe.

The company's handheld category fared less well, however - Sony shipped a combined total of 700,000 PlayStation Vitas, PSPs and PlayStation TV units (Sony declined to specify exact amounts for each).

But that's around 100,000 less than it sold during the same period last year - and despite the new addition of PlayStation TV.

Overall, Sony's Game and Network Services division made 309.5bn yen (£1.73bn) in revenue and reversed last year's 4.2bn yen operating loss into a 21.8bn yen (£122m) operating profit.

But, company-wide, Sony made a loss of ¥136bn (£764m) and expects to end the financial year with an even wider loss of ¥230bn yen (£1.2bn), despite raised expectations for the game division.

As you’ve probably read by now, cumulative PS4 sales have now surpassed six million units worldwide following the successful launch in Japan just over a week ago. It’s truly humbling to see the rate at which gamers across the globe are choosing PS4 as their next gen console of choice. Even more exciting is what happens when gamers power up their PS4s. *1 Number of retail sales to consumers is estimated by SCEI. PS4 sales data in North America and Latin America collected 11/15/2013 – 2/8/2014. Europe and Asia collected 11/29/13 –2/8/2014.

PS4 and Xbox One posted incredible sales figures in the UK, with Sony coming out on top.

PlayStation 4 has sold 530,000 units in the UK in just five weeks, according to ERA (using Chart-Track data), while Xbox One has sold 364,000 units. It's a significant gap between the two competitors, although both numbers are significantly higher than any previous console launch.

PS4 hardware sales generated £181.8m on the UK High Street, while Xbox One made £144.5m. Together, that means the UK market made over £326m from next-gen console sales.

ERA director general Kim Bayley said, “Games continues to deliver digital sales strongly, but it was disappointing that Xbox One and PS4 came so late in 2013 and then huge demand meant stock sold out quickly. Retailers will be working hard in 2014 to maintain the sales momentum of these two great new pieces of kit.”

A subtle but excellent point, MM, The Wii U and Vita did indeed sell well initially before losing momentum. Are you thinking that the same fate awaits the PS4?

I just put that in there so people want to check out recent hardware launches if they want to. Depending on supply I expect we'll get the usual drop off after Xmas but nowhere to the extent Wii U & Vita did.

Completely forgot about the Wii U doing minus 20k in Europe Q3. So gooseberry fool.

Nice to see Sony off to a good start. Xbone deserves fewer sales for forcing shitty Kinect upon us and charging a premium for it.

The question is, how much stock is currently available and whether if demand continues, is the supply available. Be interesting to see how first 24 hours of XBO sales compares next week.

Microsoft commiting corporate suicide in the console market I think added to this figure significantly, but I'm a much larger fan of Sony's consoles, services and their older game output which is rumoured to be coming back to business this gen which is great. Glad to see it doing well.

However, even with everything happening the way it did I get this odd feeling the UK this generation will be Xboxland again. I hope it isn't, but people are stupid.

240k as I won't include Japan figures. Plus Europe launch was delayed 5 months.

So very big improvement from Sony. Hopefully Xbox One does as well so stupid people can stop saying consoles are dying.

At least someone has a bit of sense here. People hoping consoles are going to fail is just :fp: . Competition between multiple consoles is good for the industry, guys.

A lot of people will be buying XBO - they had decided this prior to knowing anything about the console and what happened between announcement and launch, and which console is most powerful changes nothing.

I disagree totally. MS will have banked on me buying an Xbone as a loyal customer to the brand. The respective launch events and subsequent announcements convinced me a PS4 was what I wanted, and convinced me to buy a PS3 due to the onward benefits of PS+ (I've never owned a PS platform until after MS launch event).

That's pretty big, and I'm not the only one. They have probably won back some, but not all. Numbers will be interesting.

Ok, maybe a few older buyers, but the younger ones won't be swayed - I know kids at my son's school are upgrading from 360s to XBOs without knowing anything about the PS4.
