True.

Thing is I've never actually had any issues when I've been staying in London or Middlesbrough, maybe other than one or two snide wankers in the capital making comments about my Scottish accent, but a flip just seems to switch amongst some people when abroad. Or probably they were dicks anyway and just passed me by before.

Metropolitan areas here are very different to everywhere else. It's why I love living in the city so much. Leave them and you'll find yourself in the company of what is romantically celebrated as the quirky personality of rural England, but what is in reality often a wasteland of country bumpkin ignorant bigotry and hatred.

That makes sense, it's even the same over here (Hungary) actually; most of the folk in the major cities are lovely and welcoming, fairly forward-thinking (seen few problems of racism or homophobia) and would fit in no bother in the same metropolitan scene in any richer country. Then you head out to the countryside for drinks and someone translates for you what they're saying :dread:

I'm unsure how much we can swipe without causing WW3 but it's surely worth a try.
We could probably get a few billion quids worth of stationary at the least.

If we get the UKIP MEPs to do it then they'll just hospitalise anyone who catches them as a warning.

Then again that would require a UKIP MEP actually turning up for work.

The problem with the UK abroad and at sporting events can be summed up in one word: alcohol.

It's a stereotype, and it's their holiday so they can obviously do what they want, but I legitimately have strawberry float all in common with people that go to Spain, sit by the hotel pool all day, and only care what's on the hotel in-house menu or where the nearest English-themed/owned cafe is because they've got to have their English breakfast. And I love an English breakfast...just not in another bloody country.

I've never really seen the bad behaviour, but whenever I've heard British people abroad, they all have the same accent, and can't seem to pronounce half the syllabus in a sentence. "Oy, may', ave a look a this jus' like we ave back" etc. I've heard you guys talk on mumble and you sound normal, so where are these people all coming from?!

Arrogant England fans.

I was in a decent Welsh pub on the weekend and this miserable bastard came in and demanded we turn over to watch the England rugby game, while the post match chat for the Welsh game was still on. He then proceed to moan that our traditional Welsh language chant was us singing "stick your chariot up your arse", no respect at all for another language.

He then got all pissy when we kissed our English mate on the head to comfort him after the England loss (which caused him tears of joy) before storming out saying that he would never ever support Wales in anything ever again.

What a prick.

Nah, they seemed sober. I was listening to the radio today and they were talking to a musician who had a similar accent, they were from North London, or as they called it "Nof London".

People saying "happy days!". I don't know if it is a Bristolian thing but I seem to be hearing people say it more and more. It doesn't seem to matter if it is a happy thing or a sad thing, "happy days" still gets said, just in different tones.

Some recent examples that I have overheard:

"I've got a day off next week"
"Oooo happy days!"

"I have spent all my money and have nothing in the bank until we get paid next week"
"Happy days!"

"I'm taking the dog to the vets tonight"
"Happy days!"

"It's school holidays next week"
"Oh dear, happy days!"

strawberry float OFF! I blame the Fonz, the utter banana split. :x

I hate people saying happy days, it's such a forced saying.

I've never heard someone use 'Happy Days!' unsarcastically.
