Is there a good reason that chain drives arent in washing machines instead of belt drives?

Pros: Faster, more powerful, no belt whine, no belt snapping
Cons: Lubricating the chain, higher up front cost

???

My idea is a washing machine that weighs the load when you put it in, and adjusts the program time and amount of water/detergent/etc accordingly. Saves energy and water for smaller loads.

I think that might actually already be a thing.

I watched Detectorists again. Obvs don't read any of this until you've watched it.

That scene in the pub with Simon and Garfunkel
'I hear you're good with Gazebos'
Sheila's lemonade
Terry's face when he finds that button and the moment with Sheila
That auctioneer
Becky and Andy winning the house
That proposal scene just subtly played out of focus in the background

Absolutely glorious in every single way.

I saw an ad recently for a washing machine that takes a whole bottle* of liquid detergent and it sorts out how much to use for each wash. So instead of measuring a capful or filling to the line in the drawer you tip the whole thing in and forget about it until it runs low. Seems like a pretty cool idea.

*Obviosuly if you buy a 10 gallon drum of detergent it wont take that but a litre or two it will handle.

I can hear one of the call centre team leaders berating his staff for not having seen die hard and loudly proclaiming it's the best Christmas film

We have a US TV thread, and an HDTV thread, but not a TVTV thread or a UKTV thread (I don't think)
