I'm not going to pretend I understand engine science, but don't most cars get by on just one?

Also, I kind of get why airflow and backpressure, (is that a thing? Pressure sounds important though,) are factors, but tone? As in the sound?

Airflow out is important as high performance engines suck buckets of air in and need to get it out quickly, but careful engineering of the exhaust system is required so that the backpressure in the exhaust stays at a level appropriate to help more air pass through the cylinders, rather than being so high it 'pushes' exhaust back into the cylinder or so low it doesnt generate enough vacuum to pull exhaust out and clean air in.

And when you're buying a Ferrari, tone is very important. When you're buying any car you dont want it to sound like a bag of gooseberry fool or a Corsa with a fart can, but Ferraris have a very unique sound range.
