Forums allow people to relax their etiquette and be a bit more playful with colloquialisms. We're not bound to the same rules as we are in real life, face-to-face.

We spend so much of our time being 'grown up' in real life, it's nice to put the feet up occasionally online and not have to worry about how we come across. Always surprises me when some people on forums don't understand this, they take everything literally.
