Simple topic here, do you have a TV that can show 120fps and if not is it something that'll make you consider an upgrade?

I don't and I'm happy with the TV I have so unless it breaks I'm not sure I see much point in changing.

Yes, mine does, but it also supports VRR, which I suspect might be more useful. I wouldn’t have upgraded solely for that, though.

I assume there's a simple way to check.

I have a UE55MU7000 (bloody stupid crappy naming bollocks, sorry) and I'm just assuming it won't do 120fps 4K.

I’m no expert, but I believe HDMI 2.0 can go up to 4K 60fps. HDMI 2.1 is required for 4K 120fps. Yours has 2.0 inputs.

That's what I was thinking but thanks for the conformation :D .

I don't think I'm going to be upgrading for a while now, although it's definitely something I would like to upgrade to, among other things.

I only use my TV for watching films and TV, there's no point in it being capable of 120fps when 4K bluray outputs at something like 23fps.

I got a new TV less than a year ago so it supports it, but I'm not sure if it's something I care that much about. HDR and 4K are huge improvements for me, but I've never really noticed increases in frame rates over 30 FPS that much.

I have no idea, though I don’t think so. Mine was the last Sony 4K set produced to have 3D capability (a fun distraction but nothing beyond that for those yet to experience the wonders of that misjudged ‘revolution’).

Oh yeah, we should be due another round of pointless new 3D shenanigans soon enough :slol: .

It's the future now don't you know!

I think it can be done through HDMI2.0 because 3D TVs are 120Hz. At least "Active" 3D screens do anyway, I think the cheaper "Passive" 3D screens may work from the same frame rather than alternate frames so they probably don't need as high of a refresh rate.

After buying a new monitor recently with variable refresh rate (g-sync), I don't think I can go back. Going back to less than 60 fps feels terrible, and even below 100 feels choppy tbh.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

But not at 4K.

I suppose if you don't have a 4K screen yeh, you need a 4K screen for 4K at 120FPS

I'm not sure I've ever actually seen anything at 120fps, and I probably couldn't tell the difference anyway.

What was the refresh rate of that Hobbit film in the Cinema that was supposed to be super amazing?

48fps.

I found after moving to 120+ fps then going back to 60fps and below can be quite noticeable depending on game type.

It was 48, which is double the standard 24 of movies.

I would imagine more things will start shooting at higher frame rates as we move to higher refresh rate TVs and greater resolutions on bigger TVs.

Gemini Man was 120fps.
