449 Euros apparently with 70 Euro of PSN content already on board.

Pretty soon after the 80GB. You can actually buy a 320GB HDD for under £50 from the likes of Dabs.

If it dont play ps2 games its just a silly move, no real point to it, what with the hard drive already upgradeable, i suppose it just makes us 60gb owners more special! :D

This is just getting plain silly now. Both MS and Sony have been guilty of this sort of nonsense. Just pick a setup and stick with it for Christ's sake.

I think it is just down to so many dreadful mistakes in the past for Sony and they are trying to put it right. Sadly, all the SKUs are ridiculous, specially for those who jump in and then hear about them.

This generation is truly the gen of the ever expanding hard drive.

For all those asking about BC, to put it bluntly the PS3 will most likely never have BC again. They've said as much on multiple occasions so I cannot see it ever returning now.

Nope the 80gb is priced at 399 Euros and the 160gb at 449.
So if you wait 2 more months you get 100gb extra hard drive and 70 Euros worth of content for only 50 Euros more.

But what if the 70 euros worth of content is nothing that I want? The 80gb should be dropped in price immediatly if this is there game

Essentially - BC or gtfo, Sony.

Even though I got raped to secure a 60GB in the dying seconds of their availability, I would find it immensly comforting to know that should anything go tits-up, a nice brand new BC machine could replace it. I would hate to have a non-BC or refurbished replacement.

So come on - stop being selfish promise-breaking bastards who didn't like their last-gen software outselling their present mediocreware and DO THE DECENT THING. Restore BC and try to go more than one quarter without introducing a new configuration that entirely misses the point again. Kthxbai.

For you, the day I graced your thread was the most important day of your life. But for me... it was Tuesday.

Is the content already on the hdd or is it some kind of credit used to get what you want?

The former will just mean a lot of stuff you don't want.

The worst thing about the BC issue is that the console with the best games gets left behind while Xbox games live on :?

Already pre-loaded, they aren't going to announce what it will be until nearer the date.

I have a theory that Sony deliberately took BC out to stop people selling off their PS2s. Think about it; the xbox is dead so MS have nothing to lose by allowing you to play its games on 360, but PS2 is still going strong and flood of second hand consoles on the market would damage sales.
