 It's reached the point where my hatred of him totally spoils any game I'm watching. I probably become more enraged at the stuff he says (and sometimes doesn't say) than is justifiable, but there's no turning back now.

I usually hate Lawro too, I did laugh when there was a pitch invader and he said, "a village has lost its idiot."

People were saying last night that the Golden Ball was decided by journalists, it normally is, last night it wasn't. It was decided by "Fifa’s technical study group of coaching analysts"

A fitting close for the thread to be on page 500.

Indeedy, great world cup and one of my favourite ones so far, some of the football was amazing and Germany deserved to win it. they played some great attacking football and dominated a lot of teams.

Derek is too busy to deal with this, he is currently getting a full back tattoo of Messi’s face with the caption “Leo Messssi, 2014 GOLDEN BALLS WINNAR!”.

Given how well he performed for Argentina in midfield, I wonder if Barca will finally start playing him in his best position more often next season?

They need to actually buy a new central defender first. They've been needing one badly for about two seasons now.

I'm glad Germany won, but on a different day Argentina would have snapped up one of those huge chances and shut up shop, getting the win themselves. Germany were the better side though, overall.

I still think Germany are deceptively fragile at the back, but they're so fluid attacking it's almost suicidal to throw too many into their back line. Some of the earlier games really showed how they can be made to panic if you really go at them.

But this tournament has shown there are no big teams without flaws. Weighing everything up, I think the best team won the World Cup.

Big problem for me has been the refereeing - far too much leniency throughout the competition, especially in not giving yellow cards for professional fouls in advanced positions. At times it was almost becoming farcical. Frankly, I'm looking forward to the PL refereeing already. You've got to have some boundaries, otherwise it becomes a joke.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the refs were under instructions to keep as many players on the park as possible.

There were some brutal challenges going in, and Masch could've been sent off three times last night. He wasn't the only offender, of course.

I'm still stewing over this, TBH:
