It could be that it has a PC mode where it can download and play Scorpio optimised PC games. Developers make their games to accommodate a variety of hardware specs, now (using updated developer tools) they will be able to optimise their game for the Scorpio, guaranteeing compatibility.

BID0 wrote:If it was running Windows 10 then Microsoft would lock it down and then you would only be able to play the Xbox PC games which (as far as I know) are just Xbox games so it would render the whole thing pointless.

Microsoft will not have Steam or anything like that running on an Xbox.

If true, this is where it gets interesting! Would the Scorpio also be a open platform PC that can access the Steam store to buy games? Doing so would offer a massive library of games. However the sales commission would go to Valve not Microsoft and this might make the system more vulnerable to hacking and exploiting. The other way could be that any PC game maker (such as indie devs) without needing to convert the game to Xbox could have it work on Scorpio using the PC mode, then sell their game through the Xbox LIVE store. This would provide the Scorpio with a massive library of indie games and Microsoft would get their commission from the store.

Developers can already release their windows 10 PC games (apps) on Xbox 1 if they so wish. They just need to pay Microsoft their cut for hosting it on the marketplace store.

That's why you won't see steam on there. That's money for nothing that they'd be giving away and it'd canablise the sale on their own store too.

Will be interesting to see exactly how much more powerful the scorpio is compared to the ps4 pro, but what microsoft need is some big games, because their competitors are beating them on that front by a country mile!

Correct me if i'm wrong but are you talking about Universal Apps? I thought these are limited to smaller programs so an extension of this would be making full PC games compatible through the store.

Yup. A developer can release a game from PC/X1/Scorpio on any of the other devices. I think even Windows mobile? Is that still a thing? There's no need for the Xbox to run in a newly added PC mode as suggested.

Not quite, an X86 game won't run on an ARM Windows Mobile phone.

I can't wait for tomorrow. 10pm on a Sunday is such a good time for me too, I hope the move is permanent. I'm curious about Scorpio, only because I don't own an Xbox One. If I did, I imagine my feelings may be similar to my feelings on the PS4 Pro. But at the same time, I've gone from definitely getting one to not really interested. The culling of Scalebound in particular hurt its appeal for me. But I'm a huge fan of Microsoft's attitude to backwards compatibility. It's one of the reasons I'm interested in seeing if they have a software line up to entice me back into the fold. I have so much stuff on 360 that I never opened or played that I'd like to. I feel like I want to support an ecosystem that isn't trying to extort money out of me to play things I already own. But for my money I'd need to see them courting Japanese developers, and putting out something different.

I can't believe how close this is. :toot:

Not bothered about Scorpio, seems like a bit of an overkill "mid-gen" upgrade few with buy.

Really looking forward to seeing Crackdown 3 though, I think it'll be the game that defines the Xbox One and "the power of cloud".

Sea of Thieves looks intriguing too, is it like an always online team objective game?

Yeah, I am, Venom! As I don't own an XBO I'm not particularly hyped about games for that system, but I am very intrigued by Scorpio. It will be cool to discover the name of the system (I'd be happy with Xbox Scorpio), the technical capabilities, the cost and, of course, the games. I will be ready for the 2200 kick-off!

Is it possible to watch this conference via a PS4? I'll probably be in bed by the time it starts and have got a PS4 in the bedroom.

Yeah, you can watch the live show via YouTube, Moggy. So you can get that full Scorpio experience whilst you're in bed :datass: .

Cheers Jawa.

It's just the way an Xbox conference should be watched, on a PlayStation. ;)

If you have an Xbox account and if there's any likelihood of you ever picking up an Xbox One then watch it through Mixer, you get free stuff.

How have there not been any leaks yet? Normally we know pretty much the entire running order by now.

As I haven't been using it much I traded in my XBO in case the price crashes after the Scorpio reveal. My criticism of the XBO is the interface, it looks lovely but is so cluttered and difficult to navigate. The worst was the crap you had to go through to take screenshots and footage, half the time I ended up capturing menu footage! So the Scorpio will be more powerful, hopefully it will have a better interface. If I have a 4K TV and Microsoft do enough to convince me I will preorder it.
