- Sony has a quiet year, only one of the upcoming "big 3" (Last of Us II, Death Stranding, Ghost of Thushima) actually sees release

- Nintendo has a great year with Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing and Pokémon launching to high praise and Switch Lite sells well

- Microsoft launches drive-less Xbox One to coincide with XCloud launch, Sony follows suit shortly after

- Dreams is praised by critics receiving a Metacritic 92 but most players find it overly complex and good player created content is sparse

- Metroid Prime 4 is shown at E3, graphically better than Doom

- PES 2020 releases using Unreal Engine 4, is a huge jump forward for the series

- Amazon and Netflix announce streaming games on their platforms but content is limited

- Shenmue 3 is popular with fans but is slated by critics

- Atari VCS is canned

Dreamcast 2 announced. It’s more powerful than any supercomputer and quickly becomes the sole gaming platform. The new Sonic games are still gooseberry fool though.

Cross-gen games seems likely. Halo Reach will definitely be an XBOT (Xbox One Two) game, but it might well work on the XBOX (Xbox One X) and perhaps the regular Xbox.
The Last of Us 2 was promised for PS4, but a delayed release puts a release in the PS5 window so maybe will make this a cross-buy.

Switch lite, switch pro, switch two will not be released. Possibly revealed for 2020.
Next halo game is delayed or just not mentioned.
Switch receives a £50 price reduction
Pokemon Switch (whatever it’s going to be) delayed till 2020
Diddy Kong racing finally revealed but no release date. Rumours circulate that Banjo and Kazooie May make an appearance.
Despite rumours no SNES or N64 games appear for the Switch Online service.
N64 mini also fails to make an appearance.
All games developers stop production of future games as everyone is just playing Fortnite still.

My predictions appear very negative

- A new economic recession hits as the US suffers a downturn and Trump is turfed out of office but does not make any significant impact immediately on games industry as spending for most projects through 2019-2020 is already allocated.
- Specs (subject to change) and other details about Xbox Two and PS5 are released by both save the big reveal until E3 2020, planning to release in the later half of that year.
- Nintendo releases an ultra portable counterpart for the Switch (probably called Switch Go or something like that) intended to replace 3DS, a clamshell device device with a smaller screen.
- After the Fallout 76 mess Bethesda plow additional resources into Starfield, inspired by the huge success of the critically acclaimed The Outer Worlds.
- Playground games announce Fable IV.
- "Cloud gaming" because next industry buzzword.

Resident evil 2 remake is either the best game in the series or Fallout 76 levels of bad - either way, will be panned for micro-transactions.

BTW Halo Infinite doesn't have a release date so can't be delayed. Already confirmed as a XB1 game. Probably out with XB2 launch in 2020, cross gen.

More importantly, it's playable at my desk while pretending to work. :datass:

Actual prediction: Sony to unveil its next console first, with a late 2020 launch date; MS will wait to see what Sony is putting out and, if necessary, revise its specs to ensure it has the most powerful console next gen. It is very important to MS to have that to boast. In reality, the consoles will be closer than ever in terms of actual outputs.
