I have 2 of differing ages, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. Usually the bedroom dies first as is the oldest, when it does I get a new living room one and the living room one is demoted to the bedroom.

Don’t see the point in buying new unless one breaks as well if it is showing images and doing sound then it’s doing its job.

Another part of me doesn't want to get a new TV until this one dies. It seems wasteful otherwise. So since the screen itself is fine (albeit it small) I've also been wondering about getting a separate gaming chair that I can have closer to the TV. Seems a bit daft when there is a one year old sofa right behind me though.

So when I play games with tiny text I sit on the floor like my 10 year old self back in the day :fp:

Basically this TV is the hand-me-down from when we got a new TV for the living room about 4 years ago. When 4k wasn't quite a thing and 3D was.

I have a PS4 pro but no 4K TV so the best I can manage is 1080p. When I stream from PS4 I drop the broadcast resolution down a little as I know at least one of my regulars doesn't have the best internet connection.

Genuinely can't wrap my head round this.

If the TV I have does everything I need (enough HDMI ports, HD picture, Optical audio out) why spend a load of money buying something else, yeah the picture may have more dots but I’m happy with what I have what’s the point.

I think the problem for me, and I would imagine for lots of people, is that TV's a while ago reached a point of being "good enough": HD, good screen size, thin and light enough to put where you want etc. Most things that have happened in the last 5+ years just don't offer a tangible enough upgrade to warrant replacing something that is perfectly fine.

I'm definitely in the camp of saying I'll almost certainly only upgrade when it either dies or when it becomes incompatible with other devices.

I bought this TV when my last one broke (the internal Freeview broke) and I needed a new one quick because there was a UFC, British GP and Wimbledon all on that weekend so I just went for the best one available for my budget and got it delivered off Amazon the next day. This must have been around 8 years ago and I can probably see myself getting a new one within the next year.

I'd had my last tv (40" 1080p samsung) for a good 10+ years and while it was great at the time, the blacks were always pretty grey and it was lost in the middle of the room. I earned enough at the time so thought strawberry float it and had a massive upgrade. Much like Errkal's gimp system, the old one has been in the spare room ever since, were it's not been switched on once in about 3 years.

1080p currently with both my TV and PC monitor but I think we might treat ourselves to a 4KTV once we get a PS5.

I’m still using a 40”, 1080p TV, even nearly 10 years on its still working more or less as the day I got it, it has started showing a couple of signs of its age though, backlight seems to flicker somewhat after prolonged use (only happened a few times mind) and there is a permanent brighter spot in the top/middle of the screen. At the moment none of these issues are bad enough to warrant upgrading but an upgrade would certainly be nice. Another thing is that I’ve no idea what to do with the current TV, in the past the CRT ones have just died so its always been an easy decision but this one keeps plodding on and it seems unfair to take it to the tip when its still largely in working order.

Another thing is, I have no idea what TV I should be looking at. There’s that many bloody models of very, very similar TVs that I’ve no idea what the difference between them actually is! Suppose if I’m going for a Series X next gen then 4K and HDR would be a must and a TV capable of 120fps would be a benefit as they’re pushing it quite hard for next gen.

Choosing a new TV is easy, you just buy the LGC9 or CX in the size you want.

4K and luckily it's 120Hz as it was one of the last 3D TVs

If they’re the best ones I best get saving  Chances are I’ll be using my current one for a while longer yet or until it decides to break.

1080p. I'll upgrade when I can justify it. I use a pc screen (loaned from work) for my gaming generally, and the main tv is 1080p. If my screens had to go back, I have to say I'd probably get a decent pc monitor rather than a 4k tv, simply because dual screening a laptop has an actual practical advantage.

If the main tv broke though, I'd get a 4k tele for sure, but a large 1080p tv still cuts it for me.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.
