Not the speed I play it at! Good idea though. I had considered playing all the way through one shorter game but one of the guys that did it last year said he tried something similar and it didn't quite work out.

poser wrote:Quite like the games from hell idea. My suggesiton was going to be a Gaming Through the Ages Marathon - play one game each for an hour from the last 24 years, so one from 1988, then 89, and so on until you play one from this year. Of course, this could make it more expensive if you need to source retro consoles.

Wow, that would have been something. I'm sure there would be someone out there that would well up for giving that a go. If I were to try it, the biggest challenge for me would be trying to look through my loft to find my old consoles :)

Ah, I'm not a big football fan I'm afraid, it'd end up being 24 hours of me just going "Uh, whut?"

I wrote about this whole thing in my blog the other night and the organisers picked up on it and gave me a wee mention on the front page of their one, nice!

As the time for this is drawing near, I've updated the OP with a few more bits and bobs.

To date, I've raised a whopping £275 (thanks to some very generous donations from fellow GRcaders).

It'd be great if I could get some focus on this so I was wondering if it would be possible for the thread to get stickied at all?

This one might be a long shot but I think it'd be amazing if someone was able to make a logo for the day as well. The tag could be 'SKSP + STUFF' and this little dude could be incorporated into the logo in some way:

Image

The organisers are still running their Top 10 Scoreboard and I'm currently number 2. The guy who's number 1 (for now) is doing an amazing job and has clocked up over £550. Is it wrong that I want to beat him?

No.

It's a leaderboard and, as a gamer, I naturally want to be at the top! :D

Can you guys help me get there?

I realise that what I've mentioned in this post is a lot to ask from you all but I think that the forum could get some great exposure off the back of this. I'd even wear one of the (more tasteful) GR t-shirts if they come out!

Bit of a long post there folks and thanks for reading, looking forward to hearing what you've got to say on it.

The total raised so far for this has come a long way since that very first donation by our very own PsychicSykes way back in June. There's still plenty time to donate (if you so wish) and to get any suggestions in for the Games From Hell list.

Also, that number 1 fund-raiser spot is slipping further and further away. To be fair, the guy that’s there is doing an amazing job but still! getting a fellow GRcader up to the top must be tempting, surely.

Come on folks, join in and help me raise money for a very good cause, and raise the profile of gamers and the forum in the process!

75% of the way there. Come on all, it's for a good cause. Any sized donation helps.

It does indeed, thanks Sykes.

Ok, the night's are drawing in, there's a bit more of a chill in the air and we're heading nicely towards Autumn. Which means October's right around the corner and I'm only a few weeks away from starting this. *ulp*

I've found a few more titles to go on the Games from Hell list (added to the OP) and have set up a poll to see which 3 (or more) will be played. I'll run it for a week or two to leave me enough time to get my hands on the top ones so feel free to be as punishing as you want in your selection!

 No way!

I don't know the girl but she's done really well getting so much already, I'm sure the guy at 10 is the one that's doing the gameathon for 36 hours rather than 24.

Wish them both the best of luck next time you see them (give Steev a hug or something too, that's some task he's given himself).

 Thanks!

And thanks to everyone that's voted so far. Really, I mean that....... :)

As I'd alluded to in the OP, if my total started growing, I'd consider adding more games to play from the Games from Hell list. Well, thanks to Mr Mills' donation, I will now play the top 4 games from the list!

Now I'd like to put something to you with regards to the other games on the list.

How does this sound?

For every £30 that's donated by members of GRcade, I'll play another game from the list. It doesn't have to be from one person at a time but for each cumulative amount of £30 that comes from you guys, I play another game.

You could do me some real damage here if you want to folks; there are 12 games on the list, with 4 of them already with guaranteed slots.

It looks like I'll be doing plenty of swearing thanks to Superman 64 and Desert Bus already but, just imagine, you could have me gibbering away over Betty's Hot Pot at 5 in the morning, or wanting to rip my own eyelids off trying to get through Kengo Zero over lunch plus up to another 8 hours of madness on top of that! And, as ever it'd all be for a good cause!

Whadaya think? Surely some guilt free torture is worth a few quid of anyone's money :D
