Episode 11:

"The 'Sniper' is Tony" is what I was thinking too.

Doesn't look like it's going to end in peace, that 12 hour time gap is sure going to be interesting.

Finale

Bauer beheading Cheng! Why the hell was there a samurai sword on a Russian ship!? Actually I don't care  For all the cool gooseberry fool regarding Jack's rampage and the tension with the Audrey situation, the highlight of the episode was absolutely Heller's scene on the runway with Stephen Fry. Absolutely heartbreaking and it's great that the use of Alzheimer's in this season wasn't as clichéd as I feared it would be.

Great finale, though they had (as expected) left a little too much to wrap up in a satisfying way, and a couple of bits couldn't help but feel ever so slightly rushed. But that's nit-picking.

I sensed something was wrong as they were escorting Audrey out of the park because it's the kind of thing where they'd normally cut to another scene unless something was going to happen. For a while, I thought it was going to be Kate rather than Audrey that took the bullet.

As Skippy says, William Devane was brilliant in the final scene with Stephen Fry. A really moving moment. And Jack going postal was pretty special in a very different way.

Morgan and Belcheck have to return if they're doing more. Two great additions to the show.

It's almost unfair to compare it to other seasons given that it's half the length, but overall it was probably the best since Season 5.

She Loves You! SHUT UP!
The samurai sword :datass:
Audrey :(
Heller's speech

Good news is that there is absolutely no way they can't do more now :datass:

9x12- "You couldn't know there would be a second shooter"- what? Even I know snipers work in pairs. William Devane's conversation with Fry was incredibly dark and sad and probably my favourite moment of this series.

That was strawberry floating awesome.

BUT Why was there a silent clock at the end? He's still alive and we're going to get 'Jack breaks out of gulag' next year right...? RIGHT??? :dread:

Other highlights Love the samurai sword. The writing conversation obviously went 'Jack hasn't beheaded someone since season 2, so we better throw one of those in'.

Loved the season 1-esque phone breakdown + rampage. Good stuff. His kill count for the season must have tripled in that episode?

Just wish it was an hour long.

I do love this show though. It's not overly serious, it's just a good laugh. I really hope shows like this continue to persist and not everything turns into super dramatic melodrama.

Interesting and quite subtle bit in the finale that I think is easily missed.

Jack pulling his pistol out, clearly considering ending it all before hearing Cheng's men coming down the stairs and his despondency suddenly turning into a desire to exact revenge. Really well played.

Spotted that, great moment. I thought for a second that he was going to do it and 'the terrorists win, end of 24' would be the ultimate ending. So glad I was proved wrong!

Brilliant finale

I hadn't enjoyed this season much until the last few episodes, but they really nailed those and I'm looking forward to a potential Season 10 (24 episodes hopefully)
Loved pretty much everything people have mentioned so far: Jack preparing to kill himself and then going into S1-esque blood rage  The samurai sword :slol: Expected Audrey to die like that but the scenes with Heller really were heartbreaking  . Plus, the infiltration bit before he went mental was great- those are often my favourite parts of 24.
I expect something like a cell led by Tony and Chloe to break him out if there's another season. They can't negotiate his release again like with the Chinese for S6. Kate to come back too, please.

Excellent finale, hope it and Kate come back for another 12 eps next summer. Most of it was pretty obvious other than the fate of the 3 ladies. Thankfully the right one died but hopefully it doesn't lead to a Jack/Kate romance. I doubt they'll have time for that next season.

Well that was brilliant. Like someone said earlier, stongest 'season' since season 5. It was a bit rocky in the first few episodes but it finished so so strongly. A little like season 8 actually, only with much better characters.

I loved Kate Morgan in this series. I liked Renee, but she was the first agent I really bought. I hope she and Balcheck (sp :? ) comes back for another (...?) season. The rampage on the boat was a great mirror of season 1, where Jack also got a phone call telling him Kim was dead from Nina and then going crazy. I thought the thing with the pistol and possible suicide was subtly done but glad they didnt go that direction.

But yeah, wow. That moment on the runway actually shows what 24 writers can do sometimes, although rarely, with dialogue. It was sad, and dark and kind of disturbing but incredibly effective. Devane really nailed the role this season, he has been brilliant and been at the core of the all this season's best emotional moments. It's not often you can say 24 is genuinely powerful, but that was one small moment where it tried and it succeeded.

Great, great finale. I really hope we get another season and they work out how to start and finish strongly.

A really great end to a really great season.

As others have said, Heller's scene on the runway was magnificent, and probably one of the best moments of the 24. Jack's goodbye to Chloe was quite touching, as was his reaction to hearing of Audrey's death; it felt like a little homage to the end of S1 and it's always a powerful moment when something so shattering happens that even he can't help but drop the mask, if just for a moment (reminded me of S3 finale as well). I have no idea where they could go if there's a nother season but there goddamn has to be.

Episode 12:

strawberry floating hell, that Heller scene at the end was dark. I wasn't expecting Audrey to be killed when she did, but as with 24 everyone is on a tight rope.

Would have been awesome if as Jack was walking to the Russians and after he says to Chloe "Your my best friend" that Tony appears shouting "No, I am!" and snipes the hell out of everyone. I just really hope they bring him back for the next inevitable season to save Jack.

Despite it feeling a bit rushed at times the 12 episode formula worked decently enough and I'd gladly take another 12, or 24 or a movie, just get cracking on getting Jack back damn it!

It felt a bit rushed in that last half, could have done with being an hour episode but holy crap that was amazing. I think it definitely benefited from being a shorter season, I thought it was well paced throughout but I have seen a few people comment it was a bit slow at the beginning.

I know I complained, but that was some of the best dialogue and acting in 24 from just about everyone... Although Cheng Zhi was mostly hilarious throughout because he reminded me of Team America

Jack contemplating suicide and President Heller in the last scene  I really thought they set the Heller dementia plot line up for another vote of no confidence storyline, but it never came. Great acting for both.

The only niggle for me was the Audrey part, where as soon as the sniper was taken down everyone holstered their weapons and was "gg guys let's not clear the area lol". Great acting for her last scene also.

Kept expecting Tony to pop up right until the end, maybe he would walk out of the helicopter and cliffhanger... but no show :(

Now maybe they can do the movie/tv special they had planned. A simple break Jack out of Russia storyline. I am hoping we will see a team of rogues form up again similar to season 7, featuring Kate Morgan, Chloe O'Brian, Belcheck and of course Tony Almeida  setting up a proper season where the new team target terrorists around the world without the backing of any governments.

I still want to know what Jack has been up to these last 4 years. He was quite reluctant to talk about it, and this Belceck fellow is slightly on the dodgier side. Would love a one-off special, or even a graphic novel or something to tie up those loose ends.

Although to be honest, it was probably generic 'Jack was a merc' scenario. I will head canon that and claim he was running around as Big Boss for the intervening years :datass:

But I echo the general sentiment. MOAR.

Apparently the ending was changed at the last minute at the request of FOX.

It would have been the bleakest ending ever if after Jack finds out about Audrey he kills himself.

Great episode, although I couldn't help but burst out laughing at them going for a king fu fight for now reason other than LOL CHANG DOES TEH FU and the sword, what the hell was that doing there?!

Regarding the ending as mentioned, Jack almost kills himself but realises he still has work to do. So when he rescues Chloe, he's effectively committing suicide by handing himself over. Jack is dead, we're just spared the sight of it, hence the silent clock.
