They did the same with Rene walker in series 7. Worked quite well too because towards the end I thought they might actually kill off jack.

I'd like the final series to be a personal one, no terrorist threat, no government agency. Just jack in a situation where he has to make amends for his actions in previous years and put things right.

if this ends with him handed over to Russia, the final series could be his escape and return to US, then give him a happy ending either with Kim or Audrey. God knows he deserves a break. It would be good setting it in another country, limited resources for jack, no tech support, limited contacts etc.

If they do another one, and I think they will, they HAVE to kill him at the end. 24 is, and will remain, one of my favourite shows of all time, but realistically death is the only respite Jack is ever going to find at this point. A happy ending for Jack just doesn't seem to work for me and I would have walked away from season 8 perfectly at peace with the show if he had died right at the end.

EDIT: By which I mean that he needs to somehow sort all his gooseberry fool out with Kim/Audrey, tie up any loose ends then go out in a blaze of world saving glory. I'm talking Dark Knight Rises style glory, complete with statue.

I agree that the only real appropriate end to Jack's story at this stage would be his death. They've maintained the more unhinged nature of his character from the end of the S8 into this season, illustrating the toll all the gooseberry fool he's done, seen, and endured has taken on his psyche; there isn't a happy end for him any more. If this season is the last, I really want them to wrap the terror threat up quickly and have the last ep or two be focused entirely on Jack as a person. I'd be disappointed if they left the door open for more like with S8. A big factor in the open ended finish that got was the thinking that the film would be made but since it looks like that's never going to happen, they don't have to worry about that any more. I really want a definitive and conclusive ending, if they are no plans to produce another season.

If we do get another season, I think it would be really interesting to take a similar approach but stretch it out over the season, in that the focus wouldn't be on saving the world but rather just him trying to save himself. It'd be extremely hard to do that effectively and possibly risk taking away too many of the elements that make 24 what it is but I would really appreciate the ambition in trying nonetheless.

His death could still be bittersweet though if they let him see Kim once more before he goes.

This is Fox though, they won't kill off their cash cow. I'm just enjoying it while it's still good but I reckon either they keep him alive until the ratings are almost in single figures, or a Simpsons situation.

Episode 10 -

Who the hell saw Cheng's return coming!? strawberry float. Another fantastic episode with lots going on at the end. I'll bet Cheng escapes, the Russians get Bauer and the rest of the two episodes is set-up for the next season, with World War 3 in the balance. If Jack prevents a World War, that certainly seems like the way for him to go out.

Genuinely think that might be one of the best ever 24 episodes. Did not pause for breath.

The Kate/Jack bluff on Navarro was brilliant, and I was genuinely shocked when Cross and Chloe entered the room and everyone was dead. And then CHENG! Amazing scenes.

Also:

In hindsight there was some foreshadowing- the heavy focus on the Heller family, the repeated mention of Chinese intelligence etc. Given the fact he's one of the few 24 bad guys still alive we should have expected. Show misdirected me good though, even when I saw Adrian's team all dead I assumed it was the Russians.

Utterly incredible episode

Got to the stage where I wouldn't mind it if Yvonne Strahovski became the main character, she's bloody brilliant.

Jack can't get killed off before a final showdown with Tony.

Only two episodes left but I still believe. I have to believe

I have a feeling that the reason we haven't had a time jump yet is because we are going to get another 12 episodes next year :dread: seems to be the done thing these days

Just..... wow.

Jack back in the interrogation game.
Jack/Kate Double Team in the medical unit.
Mother strawberry floating Cheng!!! :datass:
Pissed off Russians with a truck. 8-)
World War III :datass:

What started as an average season, with fairly low expectations has changed into some of the best 24 episodes I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy.
At this point I think Chloe is either getting taken away by Cheng, or will be killed in the next two episodes. Probably taken away as there's no way they can wrap all this up in two episodes now.

I recant my previous statement about wanting it to end now. I NEED at least another twelve episodes of this like I need oxygen.

I absolutely love 24. There are better written shows, there are better made and performed shows, but NOTHING is as enjoyable as this.

Cheng!

So so good. Feels like there's a lot to wrap up in just two episodes. Really don't want it to end.

Just caught up. Aw yis.

Cheng was a surprise - looking forward to World War III! :slol: :slol:

Would love a Russian vs Chinese goon showdown for the custody of Jack Bauer too. If Jack doesn't kill them all.

Episode 10 was a good one alright, I really was hoping for a Tony appearance, hopefully we'll get a hint of it before the season ends.

:datass:

Was a brilliant episode, classic 24, Bauer losing his gooseberry fool, chases and of course the threat of world war 3: war with a vengeance which was always at the heart of the best of 24.

Dat unexpected villain :datass: Reminds me of the end of series 5, "AHHH MISSA BAUER YOU FINK WE FORGED ABOW YOU HUN

Only 2 more, how the hell are they going to wrap this up?

Episode 11

So much for the time jump. The second half of this day must be coming in another 12 episode season next year. Dread to think what cliffhanger by have in store for next week! Who else reckons Cheng's associate with the sniper is Tony?
