Regarding the ending as mentioned, Jack almost kills himself but realises he still has work to do. So when he rescues Chloe, he's effectively committing suicide by handing himself over. Jack is dead, we're just spared the sight of it, hence the silent clock.


I would agree that he is symbolically committing suicide through his sacrifice but I really don't think it's intended to be read literally as his death.The silent clock has been used before in the past to mark sad moments that don't involve a character dying (S6 ending, Redemption ending).

I know I said this about Colin Salmon, but surely Kevin McNally is too good an actor to waste in his small role at the end?

Surely they have pencilled in as a bad guy should they get another season, or a movie?

Also, why did Belcheck stop and not shoot the guy who started the boat up? That's what it seemed to suggest anyway, as he just looked at him. It had me thinking that Belcheck's endgame all along was getting Bauer on that boat and selling him out. Obviously not.

I thought:

That the boat crew were essentially in on it too - they were Russian, and therefore working with the element within their Government that wanted Bauer. In other words, working with the guy with the weird facial hair that snuffed it at the end of the episode.

That's why I thought Belcheck let the guy live. As their end-game was Bauer, not anything Cheng had planned.

As I said though, surely Kevin McNally is the big bad should it get another seriously. He'd be good in the role, and it would be a shame if it were just left to a two minute cameo.

Is Kevin McNally really that big a name? Colin Salmon is about the same level and he barely did anything. I'd like to have McNally back but I don't think it's a given

Well:

He presumably has some standing due to being in the mega-successful Pirates movies. He's well-known enough for me to see his name in the opening credits and think: "Oh, Kevin McNally's in it". Perhaps people might not know him by name, but he's quite a recognisable actor, I thought?

Maybe not a "star" in that sense, but certainly better than a two minute role at the end. He's a decent shout for a main bad guy, as I said.

Silent clock does not necessarily mean death (S6 ending, Redemption ending).

Also done to cover off two scenarios:

1. the show gets another series and we get to see Jack escape/get rescued
2. the show doesn't get picked up again so we can assume Jack is dead

I started rewatching the series from the beginning and I have to say, coming straight off of LAD only illustrates how well that was paced. There's stuff in the early episodes of Season One like Jack chasing down a suspect with the cop or Kim's attempted escape from her captors that are unnecessarily spread out over almost an entire episode. It's kinda frustrating viewing and stuff I never really had a problem with before but compared to how quickly LAD moves, it really illustrates the downside of having to fill 24 episodes a season instead of 12.

I'd forgot how much of a dick Mason was in the early days.

Freddie Prinze Jr has revealed that he hated his time on 24.

The actor - who played Cole Ortiz during the real-time drama's eighth season - said that he "hated every moment" of his time on the show, and described Kiefer Sutherland as "unprofessional".

Speaking to ABC News at San Diego Comic-Con, he said: "I did 24, it was terrible. I hated every moment of it. I just wanted to quit the business after that. So, I just sort of stopped.

"Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world," the actor continued. "That's not me talking trash, I'd say it to his face. I think everyone that's worked with him has said that."

Prinze Jr added that he was told to take off his shoes to film scenes with Sutherland, because of his height.

"I went and worked for Vince McMahon at the WWE, for Christ's sake," he explained, "but at least he was cool and tall. I didn't have to take my shoes off to do scenes with him, which they made me do [at 24].

"Just put the guy on an apple box or don't hire me next time. You know I'm 6 feet and he's 5'4."

For the sake of it looking a bit silly in the scene I can't really see anything wrong with an actor having to not look "too tall" :lol:

I think there might be a tender ego at work here.
