360 to surpass all-time Xbox 1 sales

Microsoft expects the Xbox 360's install base to exceed 25 million units by the end of November, it's said, surpasing the all-time sales of the original Xbox.

"By the end of this month, we expect our global installed base to reach 25 million units, surpassing that of the first Xbox," said Mindy Mount, CFO of the Xbox business, at the BMO Capital Markets Interactive Entertainment Conference.

Mount said that the milestone was "only a start" because "more than three-quarters" of a console's sales are made when the system falls to the sweet spot of $199 - the price of the entry-level Arcade 360 - or lower, Edge reports.

According to Microsoft, recently introduced 360 price cuts saw Xbox sales jump 42% month-on-month in the States, 62% in Europe and 500% in Japan.

I hope Microsoft don't kill the 360 too early this time. I honestly don't care if we don't get a new console for at least another 5 years.

It's well deserved too. I liked the Xbox but the 360 destroys it in every area outside of build quality (which is admittedly quite an important one :lol:

Thankfully they don't need to do that this time around. I'm sure they are already working on a successor but even if a new 360 comes out in 2011, there isn't any reason why they shouldn't continue to support the 360.

This, sort of, as I do love new technology. Can't wait to see what graphical wonders the next generation of consoles can deliver.

The Xbox was a good console, the 360 is an amazing console. It's the best console ever in my view.

They won't. They got the cost model right this time so will see this as a cash cow.. making most as it gets cheap after several years.

They really cocked up the cost model last time and could never break even let alone make profits.

I'm kinda shocked it's taken this long :shock:

I bet Microsoft is happy at actually making money from the 360 unlike the original XBOX in which they were losing money.
