Pilch and I were discussing multiplayer gaming memories over a beer the other day when he brought up the time we tried linking up a pair of Gamecubes to play 8-player Mario Kart. Its something I confess I'd forgotten about but thinking back it was great fun! A friend of ours has two living rooms that join up with a double door, so we placed a tv/cube combo in each to accommodate the 8 people to tackle the space issue. I don't recall there being too much lag either, and as always with MK it was very competitive - we played a points based tourney with various amusing forfeits for each final rank.
To the point - we didn't think there can be many people who have actually tried this, certainly outside of the games journalist circle. I mean, how many of you know people with two gamecube broadband adaptors, and also enough people prepared to get together to try a link up Mario Kart game? There can't be too many.
So anyway, who else has tried this? I'm aware Double Dash!! isn't popular in these parts, though I suspect even those most adamant of haters would glean some enjoyment out of an 8 player race. I'd love to play it again, its probably more fun than online Kart because of the 'in-your-face' factor, but unfortunately I think our much missed former moderator Gorrable may have lost one of our adaptors, the fool.
