Post8-player Double Dash

Pilch and I were discussing multiplayer gaming memories over a beer the other day when he brought up the time we tried linking up a pair of Gamecubes to play 8-player Mario Kart. Its something I confess I'd forgotten about but thinking back it was great fun! A friend of ours has two living rooms that join up with a double door, so we placed a tv/cube combo in each to accommodate the 8 people to tackle the space issue. I don't recall there being too much lag either, and as always with MK it was very competitive - we played a points based tourney with various amusing forfeits for each final rank.

To the point - we didn't think there can be many people who have actually tried this, certainly outside of the games journalist circle. I mean, how many of you know people with two gamecube broadband adaptors, and also enough people prepared to get together to try a link up Mario Kart game? There can't be too many.

So anyway, who else has tried this? I'm aware Double Dash!! isn't popular in these parts, though I suspect even those most adamant of haters would glean some enjoyment out of an 8 player race. I'd love to play it again, its probably more fun than online Kart because of the 'in-your-face' factor, but unfortunately I think our much missed former moderator Gorrable may have lost one of our adaptors, the fool. :(

I always wanted to but getting two adapters and two copies of the game plus the cumbersome setup didn't seem worth the effort. It makes me wish Mario Kart Wii had wireless LAN :(

I did and it was amazing!....a bit of money and a few pints made it really competitive!!
It went on for hours, one of my best gaming experiences! The Toads served me well!

Nothing will ever beat Link-up WipEout 2097. Lugging my PS1 around to my friends house once a week was soooooo worth it, especially since we used to do the 'CD Swap' as we only had one game. The other CD we used was 'Be Here Now' by Oasis, so every race was soundtracked to magic pie!

Never tried it sadly but its got to be better than the shambles that is Mario Kart Blue Shell Edition on Wii.
