Not sure how I came across this... maybe here? TROLLOL. Probly NeoGaf.

Anyway, these bad boys clock in at $80 (£50 at current exchange rate), and as small as a USB stick but is in fact a whole computer. Plug it into your TV and you have Android 4.0 running on it which is really impressive. Do you think its worth getting one of these? I do, the thought of having an Android telly is pretty cool. And it's well cheap!

Specs:
512MB Ram (can get 1GB versions)
4GB Hard Drive (comes with microSD slot, so upto 32GB (which are like £12 anyway))
1080p
Android 4.0
Supports like every movie & music format.

Attach a bluetooth mouse/keyboard and grab an SD card and you've got yourself a pretty banging (tablet) PC on a TV! Aaahh its so cool.

So it's basically like a Raspberry Pi but more expensive

Better CPU, though.

Actually, some of the earlier protoypes of the Pi were USB key sized, too.

So you basically came into the thread to say that?

What is Raspberry Pi?

The same as the one you posted but $25 instead of $80.

It's a charity and they produce them as cheap as possible to get kids into programming. The demand has been so high that many other companies are making their own version but of course will be wanting a profit.

No, I came into the thread to read it but I ended up posting something related to the topic at hand.

And I'm not answering your question if you're going to be a sarky little bitch.

Thanks, couldnt find anything about it on the internets :/

Hmm, thing is the Raspberry Pi only has 256mb ram, not that I know what that means but it seems less powerful. Plus, what OS does it run? Android or...?

Clearly either you can't read or don't know what you're talking about though as this has significantly more grunt than a Pi.

There's a number of embedded Linux distros available. I'll be very surprised if Android isn't currently available or available soon.

The thing about the PI is that while the CPU isn't massively fast or there's not a huge amount of memory, there's a fairly awesome SOC GPU that'll do hardware decode on HD video. I assume this should have something similar, though.

Yeah, the SoC supports up to 2160p hardware accelerated video playback.

The 7 inch tablet version with HDMI should be out pretty soon as well. They're currently selling at around $30-50 wholesale. And then expect a fall in prices once the knock-offs and 1:1 copies hit the market.

That 7inch one you linked me to looks interesting, has that got 1080p output? If so then even better! Assume it supports Bluetooth keyboard and mice too!

$50 is so cheap blimey

Yeah. They've got a real neat form factor for it (it basically complies with the AT form factor, so you could stick it in a PC style case), but I think that it's pretty power heavy by comparison.

(Before you ask why you'd want to stick it in a PC case, I'm thinking a mini-ITX style case, rather than a full tower type dealie. Though technically there doesn't seem to be any reason you COULDN'T stick it in a full tower).

Rather build your own case. Can't see the point in putting it in a case 10 times the size when you could actually build a fully speced itx machine, like my i3.

Think of it as machine intended predominantly for office use for remote desktop use and suchlike.

Could replace a whole roomful of £200 machines with these.

I would expect some nice tiny cases to appear that would allow people to take advantage of the massively reduced form factor too.

Return of the slim clients as I read somewhere. It's the 90s all over again.

Just a fad to get your money.

You seem to have forgotten that your PC does the exact same stuff, your mobile practically does, and your laptop/tablet does too.
The price is not bad though, so I will let it off.
